I have this exact same problem as described. I think it happened when I mis shifted from 3rd to 4th...instead of 4th i hit 2nd...hence the over revving. But I have been driving on this noise for awhile now (~12mths). Please keep us updated.

I think i might need to clean or replace my throttle body b/c i find it hard to feather the gas. Also when i release the gear and the revs drop...the car shutters a bit...not sure what that means?

I dont think they ever need replacing....maybe a cleaning but not replacement.

Possibly, but I dont know the history of your engine. Might have a bad valve spring also, but these are all the things you need to look at. Can you locate the area of teh ticking? Mine ticks too, but has ever since I did all my head work. I know its the better springs/cams/retainers that cause mine...
