I tend to agree that 17 looks too big on a R for Some ODD REASON.

I have 17's on my Civic and it's fine, but 15's on the R looks Right. I do think 16's would be better but that's IT

Hmmm Sounds like you are having a problem with your Car some how. I'd go to the Fuel rail. Could be dumping more fule than what is needed and killing the spark.
