Another northern Cincy R - 98 #801 - reporting in.
There's also a 97 R very nearby as well, but I haven't yet met or spoken to the owner.

4 winters in the ITR and with snow tires the car does exceptionally well. There were several days of 6+ inches of snow where I was able to get around very easily in the R. Only problem is you tend to plow snow with the spoiler and undercarriage if the snow gets too deep. By comparison, the RE010's o...

You could add Porterfield R4-S to that group as well. Very comparable to the others listed. Didn't mean it like that Carl. Based on what I have used and then what I know from feedback and limited use I woudl say this for an Auto-X street standpoint. Cobalt GT Sport Hawk HP+ Hawk HP Axxis Ultimate I ...

Regardless of your opinion, the majority of the members of the ITRCA don't approve of and don't wish to allow discussions of street racing on our forums. Period, end of story. If you object to that or still wish to talk about street racing, I'll make it very simple for you....GO SOMEWHERE ELSE to ta...

Night and Day difference. The car finally does what you want it to (in stock form) with the 225/205 staggered combo. It's the *only* way to be competitive in a stock class R.

Re: time for new clutch need help.
Exedy Organic is nearly identical to the OEM clutch (same MFG - Daiken) and is cheaper. Get the exedy, unless you want to spend the extra cash for an OEM. Also, the Exedy kits include a clutch alignment tool as do most other clutch kits. The OEM does not for some reason and they are not easy to find...

I'd contact someone at Honda Research near Columbus, OH. They would be the best source for this kind of stuff IMO. Troy Medlar (on honda-tech) works there, plus others I'm sure. You might even try some of the manufacturing plants in Anna, OH. Dean Rindler, Bart Merriam, et al work there and are avid...

Re: Auto Insurance for your Type R
I think the old real estate saying about three things being important applies here: Location, location, location. Most of the more ridiculous insurance rates come from ITR's in high theft areas. Even when I had double digit amounts of points on my license I still had insurance of only $1200/year. In...

Apples to oranges comparisons here. VW transmissions are fairly weak to begin with, especially the O2A's and regardless of what type of clutch will fail much sooner than a B-series honda transmission. The differential pin in the spider gears is notorious for falling out and allowing the spider gears...

Re: brake upgrades
It depends on what your ultimate purpose is. For street or autocrossing, stock calipers and rotors are fine, just upgrade to aggressive street pads, better fluid, and possibly stainless brake lines. Stock ITR calipers and rotors might be a good upgrade for a next step up. With aggressive pads and br...

Re: 98 ITR
$19K is a lot for a 98 regardless of mileage. Depending on his locale, he may be able to get close to that (left or right coast), but if he's in middle america or some rural spot, no chance of getting that for one unless someone buys it and has it shipped. A 98 in Ohio with that price would never se...

Re: Does anyone know of a decent wax for my R
I don't have any experience with the Meguiars Gold Class or Zaino brothers, but I've had great results with the multi-step products (Cleaner, Polish, Wax) from Meguiars. I don't know the Cleaner #, but I use their Cleaner (not cleaner wax), Polish #7, and Wax #26. That combination works great and is...

I *think* 42 or 43mm is about the correct offset, but I could be wrong. It might even be 38mm. Stock is 50mm btw.

Re: Replacing brake fluid in R
I've got the Mityvac and SpeedBleeders. Both work well. If you install the speedbleeders I'd recommend teflon (plumbers) tape on the threads to avoid air sepage (sp?) and slightly spongy pedal. While it's never been a problem for me, others have had that problem. And in my experiences, about 4 brake...

Re: ITR LSD question
If it's a factory Torsen diff, then it won't work if both wheels are off the ground. Read this and you'll understand why... http://auto.howstuffworks.com/differential8.htm You'd need to have one wheel on the ground and the other in the air, then try to move it (like remove/tighen lugs) and to verify...

Re: Track Wheels and setup?
They'll fit in front, but not in back. They really slow the car down though. Gearing is much taller, you can really tell the tires are bigger. Traction is fine with 205's especially if you go with 7-8 inch wide wheels. The wider the better. The 215/45/16 Azenis also fits, but is still taller than st...

Re: Which autox class do YOU compete in?
Once you put that header on, you won't wanna run stock class anymore It's too much HP to give up to go back to that awful stock manifold & downpipe! Plus no more DOT Competition tires to buy and change at every event. Aaahhhh!!!!

Re: Track Wheels and setup?
225/50/15's are too tall. 225/45/15 (Hoosiers) are the only tire I'm aware of in a 225 that will fit on an R. Even then you'll have to roll the rear fenders. That said, a good 205 (street or competition) tire will be more than enough for an R especially with 7-8 wide wheels. SSR Compeitions are good...

Re: WRX Sti 2004 or Type R?
That's a little different that what I've heard. Subaru deny's claims for the notorious second gear failures claiming the only way they could fail is due to abuse. I also know of two SCCA Solo II competitors driving WRX's each on their third gearbox. Subaru's own press release a few months ago stated...

Re: Which autox class do YOU compete in?
Yes, Really! You wouldn't make it to grid at a National Event before being protested. LSD's other than viscous types (not helical like the R's) are specifically disallowed in STS regardless of whether they came stock or not. And generally it's your responsibilty to know where to class your car. If y...

I've got near 80K and am beginning to think about the changing the timing belt. Helms says it's not due to at least 90K and I haven't heard of any failures on stock cam'd motors under that. Aftermarket cams are another story... I haven't done it yet on this car, but the hardest thing I've heard abou...
