FS: '97 ITR #69 - Collectors car w/ 819 miles! Ohio

Post by dpaul »

Location: Columbus, OH
Price: $28,000 OBO

1997 Acura Integra Type-R #0069
819 Original miles (no swaps, no rebuilds… this car is practically brand new)
Championship white
Clean title

Here’s your chance to own a truly rare, collector-worthy Integra Type-R. This car is entirely stock and all original, with a clean title. This ITR is #69 of about 320 produced in 1997 (the first year available in the US), and is as good as it gets.

I am the technically the 2nd owner of this incredible car, as the original “owner” was Honda. This car was meticulously maintained under Honda’s ownership and spent it’s entire life at the Acura Service Training Center in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. As an employee of Honda, I was given the opportunity to buy this amazing piece of Honda history.

Condition:
The condition of this car is exceptional, both inside and out. The car was always stored indoors and covered when not in use, so as you can imagine the exterior is practically flawless. The paint feels as smooth as glass and there are no rock chips to speak of. Even looking at the under-carriage of the car, you’d be hard pressed to find any dirt. The only blemish to speak of is a small scratch in the paint of the front bumper beneath the passenger side headlight (about 5-inches in length). However, there is no damage to the base material. It’s still very smooth and should be easy to repair if you so desire.

The interior is equally as nice as the exterior; essentially spotless. It includes all original Type-R floor mats, as well as the rear trunk mat (which is no longer available), all of which show absolutely no signs of use or dirt. The only signs of minimal wear are on the passenger seat in the lumbar support area, where there are some small scuff marks in the suede. But, basically, the interior is flawless and looks brand new.

Sale Info:
My asking price is $28,000, but I will consider any reasonable cash offer (no trades).

Just for reference, the original price of $24k in 1997 is equal to approximately $32k today (see http://www.bls.gov/data/inflation_calculator.htm).

Please be aware that a bank will most likely not give you a loan for the full asking price of this vehicle. They will typically only finance 110% of the black/blue book value, which is somewhere around $12k (never very accurate for ITRs). Thus, please secure your funding before making me an offer.

I'm dead serious when I say I'd kill anyone for this car. Seriously, if the OP is interested in working a deal for that, I'm down.

Amazing car and a once in a lifetime opportunity here.

The only way I'd ever get rid of my 97 ITR w/ 19k original miles was for one like this. Good luck with the sale.

I'm sure there are a few dozen buyers out there ready to pony up for this one. Holy crap. I'd do it myself if I had more scratch.

Good luck. But you won't need it.

I actually think the price is low for this particular car.

You have a simply amazing vehicle. It may be prudent, however, to have the scratch on the front bumper professionally repaired to further justify the price. Not that it's not justifiable now, but $28K is a lot of lettuce. Otherwise, this ITR is incredible.

In my opinion, I'd leave the front bumper scratch as-is. It's part of heR story of living at the training center. Story = collectible. :)

I have conflicting views on this car (well actually on what I'd do with it).

I've been trying to find a perfect replacement for my 98 type-r with 125k miles (it's in great shape, runs perfectly, and I absolutely love it, I just know it will have to be replaced eventually). Nothing out there is like the type-r (if there is something, please let me know). Everything I've driven is either too heavy, too big, too luxurious, or too filtered-from-the-road.

So now I see this essentially perfect type-r. WOW is all I can say.

But here's the funny thing. If I bought it, I'd take the 8xx miles and turn it into 50k miles in 2 years. Sure I'd have a smile on my face the whole time, but this might be one car that really should be bought by a collector.

I'm not a collector and never will be. I don't want to have a car that can't be driven.

So if I bought it, it would just be another type-r in a few years.

And right now it seems truly unique.

Wow, what an amazing car... you mention no swaps/no rebuilds though. What exactly was the car used for at the training center? Perhaps it would help you with your sale if you clarified and expanded it's history in your listing. My first thought was "amazingly low milage, but how many times has everything been taken apart and put back together again?" Either way, it sounds like a really special ITR. GLWS!

Just to clear up some questions on the history of the car, it has never been torn down or disassembled. It was only used for diagnostics training, which included SRS troubleshooting, A/C performance diagnostics, and reading O2 sensors with an oscilloscope. Additionally, all systems that were subjected to training exercises were replaced with new Honda parts prior to the sale.

I thought it was headed to a museum? I heard that some Acura exec wanted to buy it and they wouldn't sell it. Did all those miles come from driving to Ohio from Florida? I think it had less than 100 miles when someone else posted a pic of it last year.
