any power to be gained by deleting the cat

Post by Tommy Boy »

Does modifying the exhaust give any real gains on the ITR?
I hear that the factory brought everything together as a well tuned system. Modifying the exhaust might not do too much; or are there always gains to be had with changing the exhaust?
What is it that's actually happening? Are we reducing back pressure? Wouldn't simply deleting the cat remove the biggest restriction?

There are gains to be added, but just removing the cat isn't going to gain you much. A full header and exhaust sytem will gain results, but it's best when coupled together with other mods, and then tuned so that all components compliment one another.

What other mods, for instance?

And those that are doing the full headers and exhaust, is cat delete part of the program?

I still think that the cat must be the single biggest restriction in the exhaust system becasue it's the only thing the honda engineers have no freedom with.

Building the car NA is quite expensive. For great results, something you'll see on a dyno, your going to end up spending a TON of of coin! For example, I spent $1300 on just a header alone. Some exhaust systems can get up to the same $1300 as well. However, when you compare on a dyno, they end up yeilding the highest results.

you can run other systems out there and get decent gains, say for example a JDM 4-1 header is a cheaper alternative for around $300 or so. Some exhaust systems can be had around $600 as well. Just depends on how much you want to spend. When you go all out, the cat does end up getting deleting, yes.

So, simply deleting the cat wouldn't be worth it?
