HOW MANY LEFT??

I have a multi-layered question which I have asked myself a few times, and I am not sure how to answer it. How many ITRs are left? Since there are so many iterations of this questions, its hard to come up with a reasonable answer. One could ask:

1) How many ITRS in total (driveable, not scrapped) are still left in the Americas (USA and Canada)?
2) How many ITRS still exist in each of the model years?
3) How many unmodified examples are left in each of the model years?

I ask this because I want to have a frank conversation with my insurance broker soon so that the car is properly evaluated on its rarity. I have read far too many blogs and the like were the broker has little to no idea of what they are dealing with. I want to have this conversation with the broker before anything unpleasant happens. Based on what little that I know of this subject, I would think that the attrition rate is extremely high. With approximately 3850 being produced and sold for the American Market, and with a 60-70% kill rate (factoring age, theives and driving habits), the numbers would have to be very low.

Well, the only solid #s I can come up with are how many still had clean titles as of April 2006 carfax.

1997 223 of 320 or 70%
1998 664 of 1002 or 66%
2000 1032 of 1355 or 76%
2001 912 of 1173 or 78%
Overall 2831 of 3850 or 73.5%

Plenty have gone dirty since then.

Thats crazy in 9 years over a thousand have gone dirty. And that info is 4 years old.

Joe, what would it take to run that mass carfax again? Did you have a way to automate it or was it just manual hand jamming?

I believe it was manually entering each ITR VIN in Carfax.

OP, there is no where near 60-70% killed thus far. High numbers, but remember the forums don't represent all owners out there.

AndyT wrote a script? to run the carfaxes. He also did this for testing all possible ITR VINs over the 4 production years through Honda's Owner Link website to find out which are real ITRs. That's how he figured out 3,850 total USDM ITRs.

Manual entry would suxors Hopefully we can run that again in the near future and get updates on the carfaxes. I was search IAAI last night for the first time in awhile....added a bunch of ITRs to the dead list.

I thought they got rid of the unlimited vin running option? I believe there is a cap on it now?

is correct...they got rid of it a few months ago actually

Damn...bastards. That unlimited was awesome. Yeah, back then they did shut off his account after about 300 reports IIRC. He called and fought them saying unlimited = unlimited. They released it.

I bet if you contacted them saying you were from ITRCA and you were only performing research they might be able to work something out or maybe even run a custom query in house if you just wanted to find out clean title vs dirty and not complete vehicle history reports. Could be worth a shot?

Autocheck still offers unlimited reports for $45 FWIW.

I'm not sure if Unlimited is Unlimited or "Unlimited"

Wow, you gentlemen do take your IT seriously. I should have know that if I asked such a question to the demograph reflected here that I won't get some glib answer. My brother is a Computer Engineer/ Business Analysis and my wife is a Network Administrator. Since the eventual answer will be a reflection of what is occuring in the US, I will most likely take the percentages that are arrived at and apply them to the sales numbers in Canada.

Works out to roughly 1 Type-R stolen or written off, every 3 days.

I'm curious too! There were also some VIN's that didn't come up on carfax, but they showed as real VIN's on the myacura site. Those I'm pretty sure now, were just Honda owned cars, such as the tech-school programs. Those cars were never registered and had company plates on them. Therefore they wouldn't show up on a carfax report. Most of those cars are now registered. I confirmed this with my Acura contact as his car was one of the ones that showed up funny on Andy's list, and his car happened to be one of the tech-school program cars that were raffled to company employees. I need to update the USDM info on the registry. I currently have the "Sales" data. If Acura is asked for a definitive number of ITR's sold, they would say 3822. That excludes the originally company owned cars (near 3850 IIRC). Here's all the stuff I've collected on the subject: http://www.integratyper.org/specs/usdm-type-r-sales.htm. I need to add a bit of info about the other 38 or so once I get more solid info on them.

I am more than willing to help in any way for this. I would prefer to see if we can contact Andy and get his original script. I would have no problem working with Steve/Joe/ROR/etc to help get it setup. I'l register and cover the $45 Autocheck setup.
