Hello everyone! I ran into a couple small issues last week after taking the car out of storage at my parents house in the burbs. Bummed me out, because I was planning on taking the car out for a local late spring opener cruise this past weekend, but things have not been working right lately.
My antenna stopped working. It got locked up and stuck, fully extended. haha! I could not get that thing to go back down without bending or breaking it. So this just sucked, lol. I had to remove this darn thing, it was bothering the hell out of me. So I removed the whole driver's side panel and got to the antenna. Ended up having to bend the damn antenna anyway to get it out at the best angle! lol Looks like the motor is jacked/locked up.
I know a place that is local that can fix it. But is it even worth fixing? It looks pretty ancient...I was looking for replacements. For now, I got a rubber-type plug. It sits flush and keeps the hole covered and water out. What type of antenna would you guys recommend? I kind of dig this rubber-type plug. lol. I never listen to the radio anyway...but with the stock stereo...yeah...I need a new unit asap!
I used my key to open it once last week. It never was able to close again...I've searched and have found topics and discussions about this already. Found some answers, I know I need a new actuator. But the reason for this thread is...the other part connected to the actuator is also broken. I can't even close the hatch anymore.
I got pretty frustrated, so I just yanked both the actuator and this part out. This part has the plastic torn around the metal locking mechanism i believe, so I cut it off as much as I can and put as much grease as I could squeeze in there. It STILL doesn't open or close enough and the striker part keeps banging without success.
I took it all out again. I am going to be ordering replacement parts very soon, but thought I'd ask you guys this question since I don't have a repair manual handy. I'm going away for the weekend tomorrow and writing this at work so I won't be able to tackle this stuff until next week sometime.
What is this part called? I'm thinking it's called the lock assembly? Can anyone please confirm? Thanks in advance...(please do not be the lock assembly)...it was listed at about 170 dollars discounted at an online store I visited. The site didn't have any pictures or anything I could check, so I'm not positive.
Sorry for the long write up, but there's just a list of maintenance things to do with the R as well, all in good time I guess. I just want my banana car in tip-top mechanical shape!

Option 4) Radio? These things have radios??
If that happened to me I'd just plug the hole. If you want a working one...just hang out for a used unit. They pop up for sale for not much money. There's also the S2k antenna option many people do. Sorry, no experience in fixing a busted unit.

Hahaha...well, when I'm just cruising around enjoying the scenery and stuff, listening to some music adds to the relaxation I get while driving my R. Until... that nice open country winding road appears...and I spiritedly live in vtec heaven...for just a few seconds. lol

i put my stock deck back in my R, fuckin antenna started working. was pissed. should have seen my running around my car. pealed back my rear plastic enough to slid my hand in and unplug the stupid thing while it was down. i cant stand listening to people on the radio or that thing being up and making noise. and if listen to the same songs all day they are gonna be my songs. im gonna buy a MP3/AUX adapter thing on ebay i think for the stock deck...

I have an alpine head unit in my car, stock speakers, I got rid of my antenna last summer, put an oem rubber plug in its place, looks cleaner and I dont listen to the radio anyways, Ipod hook up and im good to go. you can get a decent deck for like $200.

That's nice, yeah I think I'm going to keep that rubber plug. Go find me a deck that is a bit more modern. I don't know about 200 bucks for a deck though...lol. I usually cruise around for over 2 hours in my R. It's all just random cruising, so having some good music always helps the mood. How does that alpine sound punching the stock speakers?
I think I found my answer to the hatch problem...it looks like it really is the lock assemply part that I need. Damn...still at work...slow night, I can still be productive!
