Kind of funny, after a long conversation with an uber nerd sales rep at Verizon, he told me without really telling me to hold out for the Samsung Fascinate as it should be out on Verizon at the end of next month. hmmmm He basically said to be careful with the droid X as it's 1GHz processor is an overclocked 800MHz processor and foresees some issues with that overtime, which is understandable.

The Droid X is running the TI OMAP3630 processor which has run from 550mhz to 1ghz. I wouldn't worry about that processor.

There will always be the next-best android phone to wait for. You have to bite the bullet.

Honestly, for some reason the Droid X really has me hyped with the HDMI out port. I think that would be killer to be able to go straight into a TV off of the phone and playback video. Not sure that the Samsung can do that.

I know, there is always something to wait for. I just need to give in already. If it's not for waiting out for the samsung it's waiting till the end of the year when Verizon is to release their 4G.

I haven't held or used any of the droid phones, but I am still leaning towards the Incredible:

I've used the Incredible and it's great. Very quick. Basically if you prefer a smaller phone, go for the Incredible. If you want screen size, the droid x is your choice. Both phones are great, and you won't be dissapointed.

My friend who is a technology geek and graduated from RIT loves his Incredible, but hates that you can't root it. I believe thats the right terminology. He's had a lot of smart phones, ranging from iPhones to blackberrys, to Nokia N-series, to androids. He's now looking forward to the Droid X.

There is a droid phone you can't get root access to? I thought that's what all of the phone nerds jerked off over?

All phones on the market right now you CAN root. Incredible's method is a bit odd, comparied to say an HTC Hero... but whatev... it's been done.

IMO, your just going to have to jump in. by 1st qtr next year they will have dual core proc's in these damn phones. The choice to wait, is yours.

Myself, I jumped in with a $30 HTC Hero and haven't looked back. It's OC'd to 710 Mhz, and totally stable, rooted/rom'd and themed.

I plan to go with the Droid X or the Incredible once I get back from vacation next week. I don't plan on rooting it though, I'm not sure what functionality it would give me that would require it.

I would recommend ordering the X tonight at midnight online. Come Friday, I'm sure they'll be on back order for 2 weeks.

I'm finally ditching my DSL as they only offer up to 6mb pipes here.
Here's the last speedtest with the DSL. Cable modem being installed now (even though I HATE my local cable company)

You're right. I went back through his posts and found one where he mentioned having to jump through hoops to root it.

Phones are worse than computers when it comes to being out of date. I like sticking with my iPhone for that reason. If I say I'm gonna stick with it, then every year, year and a half I'll be upgrading. Some of my friends end up buying new phones every few months because of the newest and bestest android phones. Fuck that.

They don't have FiOS in your area? I hated verizon's support for their DirecTV and DSL, but man FiOS is stupid fast and TV seems pretty good too.

We had it at my place for 3 weeks, and NEVER actually had TV. They gave us the run around 4 times and we told them to take their dish off and cancel our service. Verizon DSL was giving us fits too. We switched over to Cox for digital cable and internet. Much better service.

I kinda figured you guys wouldn't, but you never know. Not even our entire area here has FiOS, but most of the nicer neighborhoods like yours in my area have FiOS.

I will never, EVER give up my DirectTV. I've had it for years, and have tried DishNetwork, local cable's and others... No WAY!!!

Yeah, people complain about outage during storms... but IMO... the storms that actually block the signal are usually storms you shouldn't have the TV on for anyway. And if the dish is setup right, simple clouds and airplanes will never block your signal.

Well we were told that we had to get HD service to get channels. Then when they came out they said that that our dish was no good. Then we he put the new dish on he said "oh, those trees over there will not allow you to get standard definition channels, you will ONLY get the HD channels." Then he didn't have everything he needed. Everytime we talked to them the story changed. It was frustrating, and really put a bad taste in our mouth.

Yeah, I remember you mentioning something like that a while ago. Not sure if you just had a bad tech, or what. It's not normally like that however.

The channels you get are based on 2 things, the dish (what kind) and the recieving. Tree's has NOTHING to do with it.

LMFAO!!!

The phones today are like mini computers. It's overclocked from 500 Mhz to 710 and stable (not glitchy, rebooting) and rooting means I have root level access (it's linux, think like full domain admin rights in Windows environment) the ROM means I'm not running the stock "operating system" that Sprint has, but a custom one and themed means I have further changed that ROM to include my own icons, and other customizations such as a clear lock screen.
