That's quite an accomplishment, seeing that Apple stores have only existed for 9 years!CivicBeater wrote:Apple store. Been working there for like 35 years so I figure he has some good sources.itrsteez wrote:he works for apple or at an apple store?

Re: Technology Thread
So I got the Droid X today. So far, it appears to be eleventy billion times better than my BlackBerry. The camera appears to be pretty good also, here's a shot of the wife at the office (which I was able to FTP directly to my website from the Droid).

Resize, blah.
Re: Technology Thread
How big is the X, Brad? Compared to an ifone or something? They look considerably bigger than the Incredible, but I haven't laid hands on one yet.
BTW, Bef's Incredible should be here Wednesday (since when does Fedex 2-day take four days?). She lasted less than three weeks after I got mine before demanding one

Re: Technology Thread
I just got a text from that person who SWORE they didn't "need" to do it... and I gave them a week. That conversation happened on Monday of this week at dinner. I'd imagine another Droid X user to do the same within the next 7 days as well...
Just glad some others are enjoying.

Re: Technology Thread
Check your facts. I did it first...though my life has not changed one bit. With the GUI Chris had it rooted in less than a minute.
Chris offered to do it for me, otherwise there is no telling. I am a bit concerned with battery life right now. Everytime I check the background there are 20 app's running that I didn't turn on or use. I'm hoping rooting can take care of that for me.

Re: Technology Thread
LOL... I see... I was not privy to those details...
Also, it's Linux, so all those apps running at the same time doesn't mean much.
DO NOT GET/USE A TASK KILLER!

Re: Technology Thread
I did get the WiFi tether to work last night, not sure how much I'll use that though. I could possible do away with the data plan on the iPad now. I am also disappointed in the battery life of this phone too. I need to figure out how to squeeze more time out of the battery.

Re: Technology Thread
Like I told you, you need to ROM it. Then load a kernal that is scalable. Then get OC Widget or SetCPU. Then you can scale the proc up to whatever while screen is on, and way down to say 425mhz when the screen is off, thus saving battery sir.Bradstard wrote:I did get the WiFi tether to work last night, not sure how much I'll use that though. FWIW, even with my OC'd now (710 vs stock 528) I get better battery life, because I'm running a ROM that comes with a scalable kernal. I have the OC widget that I use to set my CPU down to 246 Mhz while screen is off, and 710 while screen is on. Win Win IMO, OC while screen is on, and Underclocked while screen is off.
There are SEVERAL ways to increase battery life such as PRL, the kernal I mentioned and others.

Re: Technology Thread
I don't follow. How can more apps running not consume more battery/memory? Why is it bad to use a task killer? I'v been using it constantly throughout the day to try and turn off the apps running in the background (in vein).Dave_B wrote: Also, it's Linux, so all those apps running at the same time doesn't mean much.

What app is that? I'd like to have it for if/when I need it. Like you, I'm not thrilled with the battery life. I know it is only going to get worse as the current battery gets used/older too.Bradstard wrote:I did get the WiFi tether to work last night, not sure how much I'll use that though. No need to ROM. Just buy the $2 SetCPU app. You can set active/standby processor speeds and create parameters. Example, If battery below 30%, dial back active/standby CPU speeds to 300mhz.Dave_B wrote: Like I told you, you need to ROM it. Then load a kernal that is scalable. Then get OC Widget or SetCPU. Re: Technology Thread
That is if your kernal allows for you to scale the proc. I know mine by default would not allow this.
As for the multiple apps running in the background, it's the way the Linux OS works. I'll have to dig up some more reading on them, and why not to use Task Killers as well. I'll get back to you on that.
Edit: This is from the Hero forums, but applies to Android OS in general.

Re: Technology Thread
That's cool, I just downloaded the app!
I'm also running SetCPU now also with several profiles configured in an attempt to help save battery life. Right now if I take mine off the charger at 6:45am and check my morning emails, then use the phone all day (not too heavily) with emails/foursquare/facebook/etc throughout the day my phone is at 15% battery by about 10:00pm each night. I'm also playing with it a lot right now as it is still new, but with my BlackBerry I could do all of that and go two days on single charge.
I also don't like that the Droid X uses micro USB. I have TONS of home and car chargers that are all mini USB which will not work with the Droid X. We've ordered several mini to micro adapters in an attempt to reuse some of our charging equipment.
On my 5th day with the Droid X, I am in love! There are still some places it could improve (screen transitions, email client, etc) are still much better on the Apple products. There are things that you can do with the Droid that you can't do with the Apple, but the Droid is also a "geek's phone." If you are not a technologically advanced person, this is not the type of phone for you.

Re: Technology Thread
Brad, see if the PRL is up to date. The signal strength you have can greatly impact battery life.
