Integra Type-R Discussion - Discuss general ITR information, technical information (including requests for technical/mechanical help/assistance), modifications, tuning, etc.
Was out driving with my wife today and spotted an entire parking lot coned off into a course. Then I spotted a boat load of CRZs lined up to run and lined up to look at, every color seemed to be there. It must have been sponsored by Honda because there was a big Honda tent and Honda signs through out the lot. Here are some phone pics I snapped real quick before they had time to see that we weren't supposed to be there. I have absolutely no idea what was actually going on because when we stopped there was no one out there, it was just a bunch of empty cars. It was at the Oasis Golf Club in Loveland, OH.
You saw a "Ride and Drive" event that Honda gives to employees to learn about the car just before it comes out. That was the autox portion of it that you saw. The group was inside doing Q&A, quizzes and stuff. I will be attnding one of the events in Denver in a couple of weeks.
I had a feeling it was something like that...I thought it would be exciting to put CRZ and autocross in the title. When I was a tech at a local Honda dealership, I remember one of the salesmen mentioning something similar to this. I just had no idea that they would have a "course" laid out, but it makes sense so that they can experience the car in different ways in one area.
I know Honda had/has good intentions with this car being the first sport hybird...yada yada. But, I really think this thing could have been a big success with a 2 liter, or at least the option of that...maybe a Type R model
I'll have to scan my CR-Z Mugen catalog. Weren't they originally planning to make a type-r model? Would have been nifty to take the red badge to a new model.
Overall I really liked the CRZ. Much more fun than a lot of "faster" cars out there, and "fun" means a lot to me. That's one reason I like the type-r so much. It feels nimble and has good crisp cornering.
Performance isn't neck breaking of course, even in sport mode, but that doesn't define "sporty" nor does it preclude fun-to-drive.

The car is a LOT more fun to drive than 122hp would lead you to believe. If you didnt know it already it actually has more torque than HP and you can feel it. 0-50mph in sport mode is plenty for around town driving. In ECON mode it is no diff than an any other hybrid, dull and boring. It almost has a Jekyll and Hyde personality to it. Had a slight understeer to it at the thershold limit but nothing that wasnt managable and you can get the rear to rotate just like your ITR. Plenty of space for someone up to 6 feet tall. The paddle shifters are the best most responsive yet paddles yet in ANY Honda/Acura. The seats are straight out of an RSX. The HIDs gave really good output as well. This car has far exceeded my expectations. I dont know if I can see myself in one but I dont harbor any ill feelings for anyone who does. The 6 speed is typical Honda. Short throws and precise. This car is a winner and I really am suprised I am saying this because I really tried not to like it. The car is much more than the numbers you see on paper in terms of its performance.
