I bet there is a Ford somewhere rolling over 1,000,000+ miles with the original tranny, engine, etc. I still won't ever buy one (again), though. Unless they brought over the Cosworth Escort.

I keep almost no music on my devices. It is very easy to "stream" the music from your home PC as long as you have cellular coverage. I have about 400gb of MP3's available at anytime (because I don't have an iPhone on AT&T, I have an Android phone on Verizon). Orb is a great app that allows your stream your MP3's, Movies, Pictures, etc from your home PC.

Rob's got almost 800,000 on his Ford (original engine, never opened up).

The main thing that I like it how easy and quick it is to check email or a website. The key word again is quickly. No boot time, no waiting, no hard drive chugging...instant results. I usually carry two laptops in my trunk at all times, one Windows and one Mac. The time that it takes a laptop to come out of stand by and get to a desktop I have already finished what I wanted to do on the iPad and moved on with my day. I also don't have to worry about charging the damn thing, it seems to last FOREVER. Being that I am on the road all the time from 7:00am to 6:00pm every day it is nice to have a 3G connection wherever I am (but it still on AT&T's shitty network). That's why I like my iPad. That and Angry Birds HD is addictive like crack!!!

Someone needs to invent a cable for an ipad that will turn it into a kvm "head" for servers. I'd immediately buy one so I never have to go hunting for a crash cart again.

There is an RDP client for iPads (which is awesome)

I thought the iPad was pretty gay at first, till I used one and I liked it a lot. I couldn't figure out why and still don't. But they're a pleasure to use.

Mainly for reasons Bradstard listed. It does 90% of what my laptop does (or at least what I use it for) and does it 10x quicker. The other 10%, my desktop takes care of. It's also super slim (compared to my laptop. Granted it's semi-archaic at 4 years of age). You can easily fit it into any man purse.

And the battery life is truly amazing. Blows away any other mobile device that I own. No more hunting for outlets at the airport or work.

Yeah, but I can do that on my phone too. Not that I would.

If I'm in the lab, I'm doing an OS install or something is tits-up. Most of my stuff is already on a shared kvm switch, but sometimes even those go bad (resolution issues, or just plain wonky machines) and I have to run down a crash cart and plug in directly. I should be able to use a laptop or tablet for that.

We almost got an ipad when Bef's second Nook died, but quickly realized while they're really cool for all sorts of stuff, they're pretty lousy book readers compared to the Nook/Kindle stuff.

[edit] And I could buy Nooks for everyone in the house, cats included, for what an ipad runs

My wife as both an iPad and a Kindle. Since she has gotten the iPad, the Kindle has collected dust. We finally have our son using the Kindle so we can report on how much he is reading each week. We know if he is just staring at a page for 30 minutes and day dreaming or if he is actually reading because of the amount of pages covered each day. Technologically advanced parents sucks for kids. They can't even get to porn on the internet in our house...poor kid will have to find something else to spank it to.

Until you just said that, I didn't see much of a point for the iPad either.

I RDP from my iphone a LOT. Was at a MS thing yesterday for 5 hours and was RDP'd into our vcenter server virtualizing some boxes. That would have been a lot easier on an iPad :P

Otherwise, it's just a quick way to browse the web with a larger screen and easier to use keyboard than the iphone/other smart phones IMO.

I don't think I've ever used a crash cart as a crash cart (I've used them to get an external mouse and monitor for my laptop though). KVM's with 1U flatpanel works fine.

I RDP from my Droid X and my iPad and there is a WORLD of difference. Having to scroll all the time sucks! With the iPad I get a native 1024x768 screen resolution with no scrolling. Again, for my field I have found the iPad an amazing tool.

I guess i still just don't get it. My netbook with SSD boots XP in <30 seconds. bluetooth, wifi, keyboard, RDP, bla bla bla... and i can sit it on a fucking table and tilt the screen so i can watch shit. and i dont have to look at the screen to type. battery lasts 5-6 hrs easy.

IF... you could make calls on this giant iphone, i'd get it, but I just don't get it.

30 seconds vs 1 sec is an eternity by today's standards. :D For the record, I don't have to look at the virtual keyboard anymore and the Apple predictive text thing is pretty intuitive. Also, when you're on a trip, getting 12+ hours vs 5-6 hour battery life is awesome. Apple's case also let's you tilt the screen to type or watch videos.

I guess that Jeep quote is appropriate here. Although I've had a Jeep and still don't get the "Jeep Thing."
