Brief R Questions

Post by R-Fan »

Yes, in the next couple of months I will be looking for a new ride. I current ride is illreveant, used to get around town durning college and etc. But I have been looking at a couple different cars on the market, and R's always catch my eye. So my questions are as follows. I am about 6'4, 6'5 and wondering if any one out there knows of anyone or is driving a Type-R at that height and can fit in it. I do fit into a 00' Civic, but can't fit into many cars. Also are there any major problems in the R's. From research online I have found nothing. Thanks for the help...

no major problems with Type R's, most people who own them drive them pretty hard, but also take excellent care of them, a properly maintained R will last as long if not longer than a Civic, even when driven hard, they are built to be driven hard

At 6'4" you may should be fine, but I'm only 5'11" so I can't say for sure, it has a lot of driver room.....

Oh....they attract a lot of attnetion, since getting mine I have had a parade of high school kids driving by my house looking in my garage, and stoping and asking to see it. That being said, they tend to get stolen pretty quick if you live in high crime, urban ares, keep it in a garage at night no matter where you live, the B18C5 is a sought after engine.....
Thanks, Matt

Yea, i have heard many stories of people having their R outside of there apartment and woken up and its gone, and later found with out the engine. I think its a possibly the Type-R being in my garage in the next few months but have to way other cars and so forth. Type-R is right now my 3 opition for a car. First something better then what I have, possibly a old 95 Civic just to have a more reliable car to get to work. 2nd opition would be a 97' Supra TT 6spd, friend of the family so a deal may be struck there. But i will keep posted on when or if i become a new type-r owner.

Also thanks for the reply and the information i appreatice it

i am 6'2" and dont realy have a problem with fitting in the car and i like to sit closer to the steering wheel than most others.

i also love the R for many reasons including style, performance and interior (red stitching is money)

honda's never have problems and are great cars...then again so are supra TT's

good luck :!:

Go test drive one and find out for sure. I'm sure that one of us would let you test fit.

I'm 6'2.5" or so, and one of my trooper companions is 6'6". We can both drive the car without problems.

With the OEM ITR seats, what tall people end up doing is sitting a little closer to the wheel than you'd think would be comfortable at first. LOL...

My generation used to call it an "Italian" driving style because it was how you always had to sit to drive the old, smaller Ferrari.

Tilt the wheel all the way up.

Then move the seat close, and then tilt the squab back to give you more distance from the wheel while still have the gearshift at a comfortable distance.

You have to try several times, but I am sure you will find a comfortable driving position.

Even when I started tracking the ITR, I was still able to find a good driving position that would allow my helmet to clear...but it was close. If you're an inch taller than I am, you will probably be better off with aftermarket seats when you get to the point that you're enjoying the car on the track.

But when you get to that point, we can help you pick the right seats and brackets to get you lower in the car.

I am 5'9" but my Best Friend is 6'4" and he fits fairly snug but comfortably in my R. HOWEVER, in my Sister's LS his head is nearly out of the Sunroof LOL. The Stock R seats sit lower than the LS and GSR seats. Notsure if it is the seats them self or if it's different rails. Now there are plenty of Lower position seat rails out there. I wouldn't say scrap the R idea for that reason. Best thing to do is just Test drive one.

Actually, a lot of it's the sunroof. GS-R driver's seat is actually height-adjustable to help get around that problem.. not sure about LS/GS integras..
