Need opinions...purchase used USDM swap or buy new OEM

Post by PhucYu00 »

If anyone has been reading my posts recently, they've all been dealing with my salvage inspection issues. I really need to get my hands on a legit USDM swap, but they seem to be few and far between. I know one of the mods on this site has a swap for 6.5k and I'm considering it...but I'm really just looking for a stock engine/trans.
I think the going price for legit USDM ITR swap is 3.5k-4.5k. I can get a brand new OEM long block and transmission (no accessories) with a 3 year warrantee for $6,000. If I purchase a used swap, I can keep my JDM..if I buy new, I'll need to pull all the accessories off and install them on the new one and sell the JDM no acc. longblock and trans to help get some money back...
So what's everyone's opinion? look for a used swap from cars that were built to be beaten and keep my swap as a spare or buy new and sell an incomplete swap..

why not buy brand and sell your jdm swap? i mean, it will still be money out of your pocket in the end but the piece of mind knowing you'll be good with the salvage issues you are dealing with and knowing you have a brand spankin new motor on top of that.

that what i would consider doing.

that's what I'm considering...but the new longblock doesn't have any accessories (sensors,IM,alt,mounts,Dist.,etc..) I would need to pull all those parts off my JDM swap to get it running. I'd then have to try to sell the JDM without any of that stuff

Too bad your not looking for something already built with low miles on it.

I have been reading up on NJ laws, I can't find ANYWHERE where it says you can not use a japanese replacement engine.

If there is no law that says you can't, you can.

In reference to "grey market", that applies to a vehicle, not a replacement part.

Honestly, it sounds like your inspector guy is a jerk.
