AST needs your feedback!

Post by TurboLS »

After speaking with web development about functionality that will be ready for the site launch in... 28 days, I have confirmed that automated tool deposit (retainer fee) collection will NOT be ready. As such, I have come up with the following interim solution. Please take a look and let me know what you guys think. Thanks!

Solution for avoiding abuse by lenders prior to automatic tool deposit incorporation & collection

Step 1: Lender indicates tool deposit in item description as well as any known shipping prices and associated dimensions, services, etc.

Step 2: Prospective borrower agrees to pay the lender the rental fee as well as pay AST the tool deposit plus 3% (or whatever Paypal’s fee is).

Step 3: Lender gets email indicating that borrower has paid him the rental fee. Lender waits for email from AST indicating tool deposit has been received.

Step 4: AST checks account for tool deposit payment (w/ corresponding tool rental ID number) and then sends email to prospective lender.

Step 5: Lender ships out tool.

Step 6: Borrower receives tool and uses tool (assuming it arrived in good shape)

Step 7: Borrower ships tool back to lender & emails AST that tool has been sent back & good transaction.

Step 8: Lender receives tool back and indicates good transaction or bad & notifies AST.

Step 9: If at any point in the process, there is a “BAD”, it goes to dispute resolution, otherwise, the tool deposit gets refunded to the borrower including paypal fees.

Sounds good except for the Paypal fee. Paypal changed their rules last year (might have been this year) so the person receiving the payment cannot add on the fee (of course you can add it on, but if Paypal finds out you will lose your account).

Sounds like a bit of a lengthy process but it should work fine for now.
