ECU?

Post by Lucas »

Do anyone run a Spoon or Mugen ecu?

Are they worth the $1500k.

And what setup are they programed for?

I run a Mugen ECU, If you only purchase one upgrade for you car, make it the Mugen ECU. The difference in unreal. But, make sure you don't run past the stock redline unless you get stiffer valve springs. If you float a valve at 9000, you'll be spending more than the 450 for the springs.

The Mugen ECU is a static map. You are better off to buy something that will allow you to tune the car to the changes you make. YOu can get a power FC and datalogit for $900 or so (No need for the commander unit) or you can get a Hondata (Not sure what cost woudl be since it depends on features).

Both will out perform the Mugen ECU and cost less. VAFC is an option but nothing like a full stand alone like the Hondata or PFC.

What exactly does the Mugen ECU do, minus the high rev limit? I'm looking for a quick and easy upgrade for my R, but don't want the "Rice Effect" w/ a huge exhaust or something like that. Any suggestions are appreciated.

You can get a copy of the Mugen ECU for under 500$ CAN. While Trey is completely right about its limitations, it still is an easy way to make your V-Tec power more available.
I use one on my stock ITR. With it in place I can shave 1 sec off a lap (65 sec course) ....not because the engine is making more hp, but because I access the V-tec quicker....I believe at 4800rpm. In addition, the fact that it has no realistic cutoff, I can extend a gear and avoid an upshift that I don't want to do when a corner is approaching.
At 1500$ I would look for something else and especially if you are looking for straight line performance, but for quick fix on track, with no tuning headaches, it's a sure bet.
