My first time behind the wheel of an R

Post by WHT95GSR »

I will try to make this as short as possible.

I have owned 2 gsr's my wife has a 03 RSX type S. I love the type r but I always thought why spend 18K on an R when I can spend 8K on a GSR and build it. I AM A FOOL!!! I have been seriously contemplating getting an R for about a year. But I have never driven a stock one before and wondered how different it really was...until this weekend.

There is a small side lot car dealership in town. They always have slightly beat on GSR's and sometimes an R. This Saturday I went down cause they had a Stock PY 01. I took a look and there was only 1 salesman. I asked to take it for a drive and he threw me the keys saying "don't get too crazy"...I had the car for about 30 Min on about 4 VERY familiar onramps and a couple laps around our Automall. YOU ARE ALL VERY LUCK PEOPLE TO GET TO DRIVE ONE OF THESE. I would buy one today but me and my wife are right in the middle of buying a house. It was the greatest. The car responds and has the control like nothing I have ever driven. The LSD is the SH*&! Comfortable 4 wheel drifts, rear end responds like no other so predictable, the turn in at mid corner is beautiful. The power difference is there and so awsome, and the tranny is freakin perfect. I can't wait to buy one beginning of next year. I haven't stopped dreaming about one sine I got out of that one.

Just had to share....Anyone looking for a 95 GSR  haha

Thanks for your honest opinion...

Waaaay to often people who haven't actually driven one speak as though there isn't that much difference. Considering all that you get, $2000 over GSR pricing was a complete steal at the dealership. You can barely get an LSD & a decent set of tires for that price!

Good luck on the house! The car is always easier to get AFTER the house if complete... :D

I agree... I've heard way too many people (GSR's... and even LS'es) who speak as if the ITR is _just_ an expensive GSR without getting behind the wheel (of a decent ITR ;))

All they need to feel is the R pull while turning... so satisfying... and not to mention the suspension and 5700 VTEC engagement vs. their 4400... its a distinct feeling in comparison...

Not to rag on you GSR's or anything... we all family... ;)

Hehehe - now tune the R down to 4400 engagement & freak'n hold on bwahahahaha

**I know 4400 rpm doesn't work for all R's but that is the best spot for my setup...yadayadayada

I had been reading everything about R's for about a year before I got mine
once I had a chance to buy one I never even test drove it! it had such low miles and was all stock I went for it.(blinded by my dream  )any
way what a difference to the 00 si I used to have. the type R truly is a special and unique ride. $2000 over a gsr what a steal!
