What's a bit. I would not be surprised if you tach was off by 500 rpms. WHich means you could go up to 9000 rpms before you see fuel cut on your tach.

Got a VAFC?

It could be just a tach that is off. Can you rev till forever?

I haven't tried revving it "forever."

More or less, I was just wondering if anyone else has been able to go above and beyond the 8400 Redline, and by how much?

I have always wondered if my limiter is working to. When I run at the track my tach easily goes 8800. I'm tempted to see how far it goes, I have a full ignition setup and my idle is perfect. The ignition box I have doesn't have a rev limiter, I wonder if it canceled the factory 8600 limit.
I'm going to check in the spring when I dyno the car to see how accurate the tach is. I'm also thinking of grabbing a Proform Shiftlite, does anyone know if there any good? or just stick with the MSD?, Accuracy is a priority!

My indicated redline is 8000 (Civic Si) and fuel cut is at 8200. The stock tach is off by quite a bit, so I actually shift at an indicated 8500.

you have to check with your speedometer to verify if the tach is off. In second gear at like 8400-8500 rpm you should run between 60 and 62 mph... if not your tach isn't accurate.... on my 98 the rev limiter seems to be at 8600-8700 and 8000 at neutral ( probably because the vtec didn't kick in under 20 mph.... ( not sure about that )

I think it's pretty well decided that the ITR tach is off a little. I wouldn't be at all surprised if an OEM motor appeared to be revving to 8800.

My field unit has digital tach & it matched up exactly to both dynos I've used. Result is revving roughly to 9000 on stock tach before the rev limiter.

Consider this - by having the stock tach 'off' a bit showing you are at redline EARLY, Honda gives themselves a little more breathing room on the majority of owners who would stop reving rather than hitting the limiter. .02

Stack "clusters" are some of the best made. And they have other tach options besides 8krpm. They are used in race cars that rev _far_ higher. In fact, they have a 22,000rpm meter at least. And a few 10k ones, plus a ~13kand a 17,500. Far more than you'd ever need.
