'98 ITR's white rims - how do i make them as white as before

Post by koji126 »

Okay, so here's what I want to do. The rims on my car have been really bugging me. The rims on the rear wheels are really white while the rims on the front wheels aren't as white. Anyway to clean them up so that the front rims are as white as the back rims? Thanks.

Could you tell me what powder coat is exactly?

And about the paint shop...how much would that set me back?

powdercoating is a process when they take the paint or original finish off the item by sandblasting or using another method and then pretty much just spraying and then baking a new color or finish on the product. if i am incorrect then plese someone correct me if im wrong.

Is the paint on the front wheels actually stained? Usually i can get mine perfectly clean using a good wheel cleaner like Mequires and letting it soak for about a minute. Or try Simple Green.

I would try to clean them first with simple green if that does not help then bust out the compound and see if that works.

Much cheaper but more labor for you.

powder coating is the most cost effective way to go.

unless you've just had some paint chip off, then your touch up paint will work perfectly.

I might just try simple green first, then powder coating afterwards if it doesn't work. Where I can get powder coating done or do i have to do it myself? How much am I looking to pay here? Sorry about the questions >_<

One more question... What brake pads are you using with the white wheels?
Please say stock- nothing else

how about going ahead and jsut painting them yourself? you can get the champ white paint in a spray can. as long as you prep the wheels nicely, they come out looking great. i think powdercoating them is overkill

Aren't the wheels a different white than the championship white paint? Aren't they brighter?

NH-0 paint is only available from Acura. However, most professional auto paint/body shops will be able to match the color very nicely. Powder coating is done at a shop, you can't do it yourself, unless you have a shop  .

The reason I ask if you were using any kind of race pad ( Hawk Blue) you would never get that dust off.

Some are better then others but race pads are a mofo to rims.

Like I said before, try some rubbing compound and see what happens.

Can they match NH-0 exactly with powder coat?

LOL

Exactly what happened to the GM R wheels I bought from David B, Rob.

He told me they wouldn't win any beauty contests, after 3 bottles of simple green and various other wheel cleaners(scouring pad included) I decided just to get them sprayed by a friend of mine when it gets warmer.
