Politeness should have nothing to do with safety concerns, unless it involves something like rules for passing zones and point bys.

Would you be able to safety wire it up?
What I mean is, can you tie all the parts to a fixed point on the car so they can't fall off on to the track?

If he feels comfortable with it, and it seems secure then I'd say it should be OK. After all, if it falls off it's his loss!

What about the camera mounts that suction cup to the windshield?

My concern is that someone could run over it and damage their car or worse, loose control, shoot it up in the air and become a scud missle.

There is a teather cord, in the first pic, on the camera handle. Put another one on the mount bar and call it a day.

Go to the link and see all their options.

It's NOT coming off.

If I were to use it though, it'd be mounted inside the car pointing out a window.

Thank you for asking about this instead of just doing it.

Unfortunately, after consulting SCCA and NASA safety officials and evaluating the information that they gave me, I do not think it would be a good idea to use an external camera mount in any student group.

Yes.

I'm a little worried about that wing nut, so please remember that it has to appear completely secure to your instructor and anyone he asks to have a look at it.

The NASA Safety Director, Jim Politi, will probably be in attendance and lending a hand with tech.
