Integra Type-R Discussion - Discuss general ITR information, technical information (including requests for technical/mechanical help/assistance), modifications, tuning, etc.
I personally know little to none about tuning a car(sadly to say but honest) and I really wanted to do an ECU upgrade. There is no one near my location with the know-how I would trust to tune for me, and due to my age I wont be travelling anywhere to get it done. Thoughts and recommendations on pre-programmed ECU's are highly appreciated.
I also wanted to get a few recommendations on a VERY QUIET catback system.
Another thing: I live in southwestern Virginia. I drive my R to high school every day. With all the postings of thefts I become more and more paranoid about losing my pride and joy. I dont have much money at all, and around here I dont know of many people with a very broad knowledge of Type R's. Not to say thats all it takes to steal one. Given the area in which I live, what should I do when it comes to security? Constantly confused, please help with all of this guys.
First, what do you want with the car, daily driver, Strip, track?
If you looking for a good exhaust that is quiet then stay with the stock one but have the bottlenecks removed/ expanded to increase the flow. Stock system can handle 200whp.
As for the ECU... you have two main choices, AEM EMS and HONDATA.
Either one will get you gains on a stock R but will get you more Hp the more mods you have.
Like I said first, what are your plans for the car?
If you want a plug and play ECU, look up "Kenji" on honda-tech. I used his p72 ecu and OBD1 conversion harness for about 9 months, and was very pleased with the performance. Also, if you want a quiet exhaust, the Mugen twinloop I have is very quiet around town, but sounds great in the midrange/high rpm's.
My aims is to have a daily driver that i can also do drag with. I'm looking to buy a new catback exhaust system, just a really quiet one(just externally... im one of those guys that cares more for speed than for being heard a mile away.) The only mod i currently have is an AEM CAI. And what i had in mind out of a good ecu is a reasonable price, preferably one i can remove easily. I'm just trying to get a feel if a new ECU is good for a daily driver, considering car life and gas mileage. All opinions welcomed and would be helpful, thx to you guys who helped so far.
my first suggestion would be to get another car to drive to school everyday. i guarantee whatever security mods you have, your car will get stolen if you drive it to hs everyday! no joke either.
