Cam Gears for 2001 ITR?

Post by 01typer1112 »

I have a 2001 ITR w/ an AEM CAI, is it worth spending some dough on some cam gears? Which one is better? Is there really a difference between any of them? What should I retard or advance the timing to?

The markings on the Skunk2 cam gears are inaccurate, so I would say those aren't a good choice.

Only get them if you have access to a dyno so you can tune them. Otherwise there is no point. I would seriously get a header before doing cam gears.

I like Toda or Spoon. Same thing really.

I think that they are good for the price but on my GSR my Ceramic ones cracked with in a year and everyone that I know has also had the same prob, but that is just from personal experince.

If I was going to get a DC header I would only spend my money on a DC JDM.

I'd recommend Toda's cams, only because they specifially made them for ITR's (said it once, say it again). As for the header, I've always thought of going Mugen (4-2-1). However, some point out that 4-1 is better (but I'm still going 4-2-1. Also, Hytech Headers have been referred to me as well.

Cam gears are good if you plan on doing some tunning, but not as a second mod, get some other boolt on stuff first, otherwise you'll find youself back at the dyno more often then you'd like.

And about the skunk2 cam gears markings being off, it's tru, mine were off by almost 1.5 degrees. Don't know what to say.....

Any cam gear is good, as long as it has 4 or more bolts locking it down.

Later!

Their Ground CLearance sucks. I would get an OEM JDM 4-1.

And I would get a Toda over a Mugen or Spoon if that is your budget.
