Tire Recommendations...

I'm new to this forum and just had a quick question regarding tires. I have a 2000 black Type R that is completely stock all the way down to the factory tires. The car has 17,000 pampered miles on it and I was wondering if there are better dry/wet tires out there than the stock 195/55/15 Potenza RE010's. I was considering the 205/50/15 BF Goodrich KDW 2's (these are the new BFG's with the 'diamond' pattern). I've read that these tires are a touch better than the Bridgestone Pole Position SO-3's. Any ideas? Plus the KDW 2's are about $100 per tire. Also, is there any performance or ride differance between the stock 195/55/15 size and the 205/50/15's? Thanks for your input. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you are looking for a streetable wet/dry only tire, then the kumho 712's are hard to beat. They'll last 40,000 miles easy & handle excellent in the wet (avoid accidents!). If you are looking for a track or autocross tire, then let me know as I have several other recommendations. I do not recommend the azenis on the street unless you have also 'learned' them on the track, since you can get yourself into some serious problems if you don't know how to handle them in poor conditions.

ummm I'd say go for Azenis.. if you have alot of track use, or else the falken zeix are not bad...

I was curious about the Ziex...my brother tried them successfully on his accord, but he doesn't drive very aggressively, so I didn't know if they'd take kindly to solid acceleration for on ramps & such (not street-racing). I've just recommended them to someone in my office & I'm hoping he'll get them so I can drive his daytona & try them out before I buy a set.

Gotta turn the R back into a daily driver so I can buy a race kaaaaaaaa.

I run 205/45R16 Ziex. This was my 3rd summer with them. They're pretty warn down, especially the inside edge (toe-out in effect!)

Overall grip is pretty good dry, good in wet when new. Sidewalls feel squishy, steering wheel more removed from the road than Pirelli PZero in the same 205/45R16 size, or the stock RE010's.

I would not get them again (but then again, the only tire I've bought twice are Victoracers

) I'm always into trying new tires.

Ive heard good things about the Yokohama AVS ES100. Very similar to the 712 from what ive read. About the same price (around $80/tire), about the same grip in wet/dry (although i think the Yokos have a slight edge), good all around tire. I plan on buying a set here soon for my stock R wheels.

One thing ive heard about the Azenis tho is they are NOT for rain so if you plan on daily driving i might stay away from these. Absolutely amazing on dry pavement but a drizzle will send you sliding. Also i read that Azenis are not great for stock R wheels and do a lot better on wider wheels (e.g. 7+ inch wide). Keep in mind this is all from what ive heard/read tho.

I lean toward the Kumho MXs, I have my second set on the car now. Never a problems and safe in the rain.

I have Falken azenis RT215... best tires for the money...

I have yet broke them lose... it's just Amazing what these things can do...
