HOW many?
Whats up? I was just wondering how many of the great "TYPE R's" were brought to the us in 1998?
I keep hearing 500 and 1,000 and i am really confused because i have seen some R's in the number range of 800 but some people say only 500 were made?

I understand that the letter came from Acura but if u look in the registry there is a couple of R's that are above 318. Do you think they are from other countries?97-241 wrote:Somebody(I think it was Trey) posted a letter from Acura that states US sales figures as:
1997: 318
1998: 1023
Being that the letter was dated August 11, 1999, they did not have the production numbers for 2000 and 2001
I saved a copy of the letter if anybody wants me to post it.
canada isn't on this registry. And you dont know if it was consecutive 318/ or if the included the race bought ones?

The numbers that Acura quoted were retail sales in the United States because they have no connection with manufactoring to find out how many were produced. So, if Realtime went down to a dealer and purchased two Type Rs, then they are included in the 318. I do not know the story behind them, but since they received numbers 0001 and 0002, I doubt they found those at a dealership. So, they are most likely not included in the 318.
On a side note, when was Realtimes first race with the ITR? I am pretty sure it was in 1997. If they got them when everybody else picked up their ITRs, I do not think they would have had time to prep them and get them on the track that quickly.

Yeah, it looks as if Realtime did start in 1997(and won the championship with an ITR in 97, 98, 99, 00, 01, 02). They had two ITRs on the track May 23-26, 1997. The GSR they have listed for February 21-23, was their probably their older bodystyle GSR. So, if Realtime managed to get them on the track in May 1997, they had to take delivery of it in late 1996 or early 1997! I would say their cars are not included in the retail sale numbers. So, that is 2 more ITRs in 97 and 1 more in 98.

On another side note, the Realtime NSX is a pre-production prototype made in 1989

To add even more confusion, I found a copy of the certificate of authenticity some owners got in 1997.
"Congratulations. You are the owner of a rare, race-inspired sports car, representing the pennacle of performance and technology. Each 1997 Integra Type R is personally certified as one of just 480 units available in North America this year. We're confident that you will have the same passion for owning and driving as we had creating it."
WTDR seems to be down right now, I will post the certificate later on.
What else is out there indicating possible production numbers? Trey, have you seen any other letters from Acura?
