ITR exhaust too loud; silencer?

Post by kensan »

Does anyone know if someone makes a silencer for the ITR? For short drives it's fine, but extended periods just get annoying! (Yes I'm an old fart.)

the stock exhaust?
If you want the car quieter you could get the cat back from a GSR but you will be making the car noticeable slower.

I find it hard to believe you find the STOCK ITR exh too loud? Do you have other mods? With the stock exh in my experience you cant even hear it unless you are right next to it outside the car.

Rob is right, though, a GSR muffler should bolt right on and be quieter still. Im sure you would have no problem getting a GSR owner to trade witih you.
Do not blow compressed air into your mouth or ears.

Well okay I really just test drove one...

...for a good 20 minutes, city and highway. While it was fun, it reminded me of a previous car I owned (FD3S with an N1 aftermarket exhaust), and perhaps I jumped the couch and said it would be loud on long trips. Which is a true statement from the FD days.

I was just hoping to purchase a silencer, if / when I buy an ITR, for the longer road trips. Thanks for the responses.

I doubt you'll find the exhaust too loud, your hands will be numb after a long trip and your ears will be in pain from the excessive roadnoise anyways.

But if you want to trade, I'll trade you. I have a 00 GS-R exhaust that I'm perfectly willing to trade :P

Its not the exhaust that your hearing. It's the intake! The stock ITR exhaust truely is not loud! Your hearing the throughtyness(not sure if it's a real word, but oh well) of the intake!

Throaty is a good word for the sound. I have an AEM intake (came with the car) and I know that causes the whistling sound I hear. Which I like. Well I'll try to pay more attention to the locations of the sound, thanks! OF course the two components are right next to each other so...hm.

And you wonder why your car is loud... AEM is probably one of the loudest intakes around.
If you go back to the stock intake system your car will be much quieter but you will notice a lack of top end power. I know I did, and I went back to the AEM CAI.
