If you look back a few years in this forum, you'll see how my project started and ended up where it stands now. To sum it up, 100% stock internals, 295whp on Mustang Dyno.

Last fall I started to get some smoking when the car was warming up, but at the same time my transmission was getting pretty bad, so I bought a new transmission and decided to drive the car for another year.

This year the car has been consuming more and more oil, and a compression test revealed low pressure on #3 cyl (about 170), so I knew that it was time for action.

Two days ago I bought a 95 GSR block with stock internals and some Eagle H beams. I couldn't pass this up, $525 for the whole package including the brand new rods still in the box :) The guy I bought it from decided to do a K24 swap on his 95 teggy, pretty cool stuff.

So that's what's going on, I'll be building the GSR block with probably stock sleeves (depending if I can get away with a .5mm overbore), 9:1 pistons, I'll use the ITR crank, head and any other parts I can salvage. Then I'll also build the ITR block for future use. I might have that one sleeved when I can afford it.

The goal is 400whp on pump gas.

Jan - one of these days, I've got to see this beast...I can't comprehend that much power in this car.

Note to self = need another R motor to start building with world challenge rules ;)

Budman are you seriously looking for another R motor to build up? Or is that later down the road? Let me know I might have a motor for ya.

Jan- 400whp easily with that set-up. Keep us updated once the beast is released. Want to see some more vids.

the pistons are at the machine shop as well, the domes are being ceramic coated, and the skirts are being coated with a solid film lubricant

another mini update. Picked up the block and pistons from the machine shop today, the block was bored/honed .5mm over. I checked it and all the bores are within +/- .0002" (both axes). The pistons were ceramic (dome) and dry film lubricant (skirts) coated, and look nice. Some pics:

Well, the project is still going, but with another baby on the way, and a 20 month old son that keeps me busy, it's been slow going. I've been buying tools and parts..I've purchased a set of nice micrometers that have resolution of .0001", and finally ordered and received my main bearings from Honda (len at baranco acura). So, I'm one small step closer. Next I'm ordering rod bearings. I've measured everything to .0001" to make sure that I order exactly the bearing sizes that I need...all you Honda people know what I'm talking about..

little more progress. This past Sunday, while my boy took a nap, I slipped silently into the garage for a couple of hours to work on getting the old motor out of the car. I pulled the head. I took some pics. If you look close at the combustion chamber on #3 and #4 you see some oil residue..#3 is the one that had lower compression than the others. I haven't mic'd the bores yet, I expect to find cylinder 3 a little more worn than the others..progress is slow, but hopefully I'll have her back on the road soon. I still need a timing belt, rod bearings, clutch and head gasket, and some other misc. parts.

I also bought a complete (used) a/c system, so the car will be getting a/c again, I'm also re-installing the power steering.

pulled the motor and took it apart this morning. I suspected broken ringlands on #3, my suspicion was true. I also found broken ringlands in #4..surprising because only #3 had poor compression.

congrats Jan. my car did 401whp 260wtq on pump at 14psi with a T3/60-1 ball bearing turbo a month or so ago.

hope to see you at Norwalk in October since it isn't that far from you or even NY in July. good luck and keep us updated

ordered rod bearings, rear main seal, OEM ITR headgasket and a tube of Hondabond.. they showed up in 2 days..

Len at Baranco Acura [thumb up]

Ordered a rod bolt stretch gauge from Summit at 2:30pm yesterday, it showed up at 9 am today..wow.. that's quick. They sent me a free hat too

starting final assembly of the shortblock this week.

I'd think you got a lot out of those pistons, Not bad for stock.
Cool door, But I want to see a finished product later. Oh yeah some interesting shot of the car parts too :roll:

Well, not much has happened in the last month, or so. I've been busy with other things. However, the engine is getting closer to being done.

In the last week, I've assembled the bottom end. I used a stretch gauge to properly fasten the connecting rod caps.

The specs call for .005-.0059" stretch on the bolts.
