To be a little more specific about this button thing...the 97 has a cable latch(simular to a gas tank release) where as the 98+ has an electronic latch.

The 97s do not have a rear windshield wiper(98+ does).

A/C was optional in 97...I think it was standard in 98(maybe that was not standard until 2000?)

The steering wheel says "ACURA" instead of the "A" Acura symbol

My99itr0005 can probably give a lot more details, but the wiring is different throughout the car

I am sure there are several other things, but that is all I can drag out for now. Also, the 97 and 98s do not have the faux carbin fiber around the A/C vent, display, and radio like the 2000 and 2001s do. 97/98s came with black leather NSX shift knobs(with red stiching) while the 00/01s came with the titanium shift knobs.

Oh yeah, it goes a little further than just the lip being different. The front bumper is different. It is the old school DC2.

In addition to having a different rear bumper, the brake lights are also a little different.

Headlights are different, and the front bumper lenses are different too.

Just a note to confirm 97-241; A/C was still a dealer installed option in 98. Standard in 00+.

Actually that isn't what changed. If you look close the slanted edge moves from the outside of the lense(by the screw) to the inside of the lense(by the open section of the bumber. Just a little more styling with the new bumper 8)

I have heard that there was an optional OEM body kit for the ITR...was this availible in 97 or did it come out in 98?

I think you are refering to the underbody kit with the front lip, side rocker panels, and rear pieces, all body colored. The cover shot of the latest Sport Compact has a Type R with the factory side and rear pieces installed.

It was only available from 98 on. The kit was not designed for the 97's with the different nose and rear bumper cover.

On the upside, and I did this on my 97 GSR, the 98 rear bumper cover (+ foam inserts) will bolt up without any problem on the 94-97's. The side skirts were common to all Integra's, so if you update the rear cover you can install the sides and rear.
The ITR has the front lip already, or you can by one from Comptech for a non-ITR.

Also, the 97's steering wheel says "ACURA" but the 98's have the Acura symbol on the steering wheel.
