Funky noise

Post by fomoco »

Hey guys maybe you can help me out, i have a 00 ITR bone stock, but its salvage and who knows what the last owner did to it. Any who it runs strong (can drive it to school 200 miles and back no prob) but its making a odd noise at about 3000 rpm. I know its the motor bc it will do it in any gear (and N ) and any speed. Its kind of a buzzing vibration that ocilates on and off wahhhh....wahhhh...wahhh... i poked around with my stehascope (how ever you spell it) and theres a lot of noise on the Alt. but also in surrounding areas. do you think its just the alt. or some internal problem that vibrates through the alt. bracket so you can hear it there too. also it seems to not do it as much when the motor is cold. thanks guys.

Yea! I know what you are talking about I have a same excatly problem but in different motor. In 98 integra ls when I reach 5,000 rpm I hear some vibration or rattling noise in motor, in details its somewhere between 5,000 and 5,180 when rpms are going up and also when I let the throttle go on the way back when it gets to 5,200 it does it too. First I thought is that i-vetec or somethin? But from what I know there is no any kinds of vtec in integra ls, gs or rs models. Any clues what could be the problem?

im having the same problem with 00 itr. you can only hear it at 3000rpm or when the engine warms up. im thinking valve clearance. how do you adjust your valve?...my other friends are saying the same thing ..get a valve adjustment.

Does it sound like its coming from the top of the motor? mine kinda does. Has anyone here adjusted their valves them selves? is it easy?

If it's a buzzing noise, I say check the header make sure there are not loose bolts or it's not cracked. Also check your heatshields and make sure they are not rubbing against the exhaust.

Valves that need to be adjusted make a ticking noise. However, this is often confused with the ticking of the injectors. Valve adjustments are fairly easy to do with the right tools.

Sounds like a solid answer to me, Even though i got a lot of noise in my stethascope around the altanator could it still be the exhaust?

My advice, find another ITR locally and compare sounds.
These cars are noisy right from the start.
