Anyone with [b]Mugen[/b] or [b]Spoon[/b] Exhaust?
I just bought my ITR a couple of months ago (00-4770) and was looking at a new exhaust system from headers back. Has anyone used Mugen or Spoon for the whole setup? How does it sound? Where can I go to buy this? I live in Nebraska so there aren't a lot of performance shops here. Thanks for the info.

Personally, I like it, although I've been told by fellow ITRCA members, and people offline that it's just too much money for what it does. In otherwords, you could find a better (or pretty much the same) system for less. Hytech keeps being referred to me.

Very untrue, there are many other places that you can order the mugen cat back from, for that matter, Inlinefour.com sells them, JDMHondaparts sells them, and at least a half dozen other places, King motorsports is the only authorized importer of Mugen, and the only authorized distributor, but there are still many resellers in the country, who often sell at a discount.pUrExTc wrote:Mugen is quiet...not loud at all, but deeper sound than stock. As far as Mugen and spoon stuff goes, it's a lot about the name, they're both quality pieces, but a large portion of what your paying for goes for import costs, tarrifs, and just name, so you're not getting all your money's worth. If you are considering the spoon exhaust, make sure you get their street exhaust, and not their N1 exhaust. I'm not sure they sell the street exhaust in the states, but it is in their catalogue, so if you can find an authorized retailer, they can get it. Pacific performance in south Florida is an authorized retailer, that's the catalogue I was looking through.
Spoon makes a lot of kool shit....
In any case, look at all your options.

thanks for all the replies. I looked at the mugen exhaust at King Motorsports and the Hytech at their website. I could only find the Spoon N1 exhaust and not a street version. Does anyone know of a Spoon retailer in the midwest. I am in Omaha, Nebraska but have family all over the midwest/great lakes. Also, why not use the N1 exhaust from Spoon? Just because of noise, or a loss of low end torque?
http://www.aj-racing.com/ has the street type available. But Im still wondering why one would choose the street over the N1? It says the Street has a more torque-giving design, but in just asthetics, is ugly compaired to the N1. But Im interested to find out more, if you wouldnt mind informing, Aj
It's obnoxiously loud!!!!! The couple of times i've heard it, it has been in conjunction with a header and test pipe, in addition to the Spoon B-pipe, but they've all been very loud, especially right around 2500-4500 rpm, right about where most people are when they're driving around town. After hearing the street version of spoon's exhaust on the exact same car with the exact same setup, it was astoundingly quieter. Up until that point, I wasn't even aware that they made a street exhaust, but it was so much more subtle, I'd personally be inclined to go that route. Another place you can get the street exhaust in the US, that is actually an aurhtorized retailer, unlike most other places, is Pacific Performance in Ft. Lauderdale Florida. If you call them, talk to Darren Hutchinson, tell him Aj sent you, he may give you a good deal.

I love my Mugen exhaust.
It's a perfect street and occasional track exhaust. The sound is perfect and it flows better than stock exhaust. The fit and finish is second to none.
If you want that extra 2 whp with a straight through exhaust w/ loud/booming noise then be my guest. Mugen purrs and is perfect for my gutted (rear interior) R.
p.s. I didnt' pay full price, but I would've paid full price if I had to.
p.s.s. Other exhausts I looked at: Fujitsubu RM-01A, Apex'i WS.

Ordinarily, I'd agree, but it's ussualy a heck of a lot more then 2whp, and on top of that, the difference between the stock and the Mugen is little more. Any 2.5 or 3 inch exhaust will pull a fair amount more Hp then the Mugen, though I do agree it makes a good street exhaust. Back when my ITR was naturally aspirated, I had an HKS Hiper system on it, it sounded fantasic. Highly recommend it, only drawback is aluminized piping, no stainless was available at the time. The stainless can was on a 30 degree angle, N1 style, badass!!

The car doesn't have a rear axle, but I think I know what you mean, it is under the rear control arm and cross brace, but I never had any scraping problems.

Yes, but not by much. I ended up putting a piece of silicone hose around the tie bar above the pipe. Once in a while, I got a rattle. I took the system off my 98 Civic Ex, and cut it two inches to make it fit my Type-R
I am sure the proper system from HKS for the Type R will fit flawlessly, HKS is meticulous about fitment of their product.

I'm surprised there is no app for the ITR, well, you could always do what I did, but I wouldn't recommend it. There are so many systems out there that will fit perfectly. The reason I liked the HKS, was the sound was never raspy (didn't sound like a moped on steroids) the system had 2 resonators (straight through) and the can ofcourse. As a matter of fact I still have the system, I just kept it because I paid $600 for it and I figure I'll own another civic someday and I'll slap it on that. I think any system that has similar or the same attributes will sound very similiar, APEX'i N1 probably sounds the same.

They do make one for the ITR, it's just a heck of a lot more expensive than the one for the LS, instead of the Hyper Dragger or what ever it's normally called, its called the Hyper Dragger R or something allong those lines, call options auto salon, they sell them. Although I think it goes over the lower control arm not under, but I'm not real sure.

I don't really want one, I was just interested. When I get another r, I will go hytech header-back. My wife's integra has the n1, and I like it a lot. If I got hks, it would be for a skyline. Thanks for the info though.
