Got Boost?

Post by Bbasso »

If anyone knows about turbo timers I'd like some help...

Since my dad likes shutting the WRX off immediately after driving, I'm going to install a turbo timer. But I have no clue which one to get.

Can you guide me in the right direction?

I see that some have a peak hold for the boost, some have cabin ait temp, and then some can read the egt to make sure the car is ok for shutting off.

HELP!

Well we have one in the Silvia, and I think it's the best invention ever. Ours is pretty simple, you choose 1min, 3min, or 8min cool down and the car shuts itself off automatically. The only problem we have is that we can't arm our alarm while the cars running, so make sure that you take the extra steps when installing it to avoid that headache. Sometimes the car has been parked for 1/2 an hour before we remember to arm him

As far as makes and models go, I'll ask Will what he thinks because he knows more about them than I do.

I use the apexi auto timer, gives you timer, O2 voltage, AF ratio(narrow band :( ) and battery voltage. you can set warnings for each when it drops or goes above the preset warn level. sets in 30seconds to 1 min by 10 seconds then 1min to 10min in 30 second incriments

I have an HKS Type something turbo timer. it flashes and stuff. it also shows 1/4 mile time and other stuff.. it doesn't monitor any temps or anything. I just left it sitting at 3 minutes...

buy a $75-100 HKS Type 1 or Type 0 timer and be done with it. All you want the thing to do is run for a bit and shut off. The HKS you can set for anywhere from 10 seconds to like 10 minutes, it gives the quarter as Dave said and gives you volts, rpms, and that may be it.

yeah, all I want a turbo timer to to is countdown from X:X0 to 0:00 and shut off the car.

The rest is worthless IMO. If I want accurate data I'll put some real gauges and senders in.

Plus, these things generally sit in the glovebox or some other fairly hidden location anyways so the extra features don't seem like they'd help much anyways.

I'd just get the cheapest option.
