On the FL note, really you should consider it. With the prices you were telling me about, you need to look at the market here. And hell, if your willing to drive 60 miles to work, you can have a damn mansion in the middle of nowhere.

FWIW, my mom is selling her house. Right in a nice area and decent price. But if I were you, and just coming into the state, I'd be near the east coast. West coast sucks.
