vtec vs turbo
vtec vs turbo
I have a question to all type r owners. I have owned a 91 turbo mr2 and loved every bit of it. The only reason I sold it is because of the high mileage. I've heard many great things about the R and is interested in getting one.
Can you guys tell me how is the vtec in the R compare to the turbo.
Thank for your input in advance.

VTEC VS TURBO
Dude, that's a tough comparison, a rear drive mid engine turbo car versus a front drive all motor car. I would have kept the MR2 but it's too late. Try this on for size, a vtec with a turbo.
Seriously, I'm a Honda fan since I was 16 and old enough to drive, but Toyota makes a nice product too (my wife's 93 Camry has 152000 miles on it and drives like new)
You will definitely miss the way that boost comes on rapidly and the resultant surge of power, but most factory turbo cars fall on their face at high RPM. Not the ITR, this car was born to rev, and just as the turbo was fun at low rpm, the ITR lives to rev above 5500 rpm. You will get addicted to VTEC just as you were addicted to boost.
There is nothing like blasting by someone at 8000 rpm, with their windows rolled down, it's like getting pimp slapped by VTEC.

Hey guys thanks for taking the time to answer my question. I really appreciate it.
Yeah, I know I'm compareing two different setup...fwd vs rwd, but
I hear so much great things about the itr and how amazing it is to be in
vtec land. Plus, I'm not trying to compare how fast the two cars are I just
want to know how vetc is compared to a stock turbo when it pulls
Can anyone tell me how different is the feel from a stock turbo?
It is agreed that vtec doesn't pull like a turbo, but how strong is the pull?
Thanks for your thoughts and opinions!

vtec pull
In my opinion, the at the vtec switch over there is a slight feeling of increased power, but it comes on gradually in a more linear fashion. It does'nt put you in your seat like a turbo. Don't forget, the ITR only makes around mid 130ft lbs of peak torque. But then again I can't remember the last time my ass was calibrated.

VTEC's not a big deal. I suppose if you had to compare it to a turbo, it's similar to being boosted by 2-3 lbs. with lots of turbo lag :p (5700 rpms worth) ITR's speed lies not in the engine so much as a stiff chassis, shorter than short gear ratios, limited-slip differential, good aerodynamics and tenacious grip assuming you don't use POS tires
Senor, s2000. I have of course the Mugen E.C.U. Spoon plug wires, spoon flywheel, Aem CAI, AEM adjustable fuel regulator, Buddy club Racing spec 3 exhaust, Mugen low temp thermostat, Mugen radiator cap, Jun cam gears and that's it for now.as far as the S2k 0
- to 60 I don't know yet, but the Vtec kicks in quick as hell

Kabob.
Sweet comparison! Since I've owned a turboed car before I can relate
to boost and turbo lag.
Kangbateh.
Nice mods! How much have you spent on the mods already?
Have any of you seen a TL headlight conversion on an integra.
Looks way better than the jdm hdlights...IMO.
I've heard only good things about the itr. So what is the favorite part
of driving your itr?

About $4,000 dollars. my favorite thing about driving my ITR is when I drop it in first gear and those revs shoot up past 4300 RPM and the Vtec kicks in which makes the beast sound even nastier and I take it all the way down to it's rev limit. To me the best part is when that VTEC kicks in it's like a hot girl during good sex having an orgasam. she's already feeing it and it's already good, but then she gets that orgasam which makes her go even crazier. That may sound nut's, but that's what the engine sound like to me it just starts pulling hard and well... you know.
