I need everyones help that has forced induction!

I'll be making an important decision pretty soon. i will be getting a 92-95 hatchback. my plan is to swap in either a JRSCed b18c5 or a GReddy turbo b18c. I want to hit low 13s to high 12s. I have no clue what setup i should do. I need your guys advise on pros/cons of both setups and what u think i should get. thanks

btw, this car has to be CA smog legal. Thats why i didnt pick to go with a more powerful turbo setup.

As much as I love my ITR turbo, if I had an old-school hatch, and was going to boost it, I would definintely go with the b18c1 with the greddy kit. That motor is perfect for boosting, the b18c5 is a lot more risky and a hell of a lot more expensive. Also you would probably like the JR for a while, but it has limited potential, with turbo your potential is much greater. Better yet, buy a b18c1, build it, then boost it. When you buy a used engine with a kit on it, you can't see inside the engine and will not know how badly beaten it is until it's too late. Either way, plan on spending some serious cash.

Take it apart, get it sleeved. New rods, forged pistons (9 to 1), get the stock crank polished, and have your rebuilder assemble the short block, or do it yourself (get some books). Get the head rebuilt, or send it out for some custom port/valve work. I usually have the rebuilder assemble the head, and I assemble the block.

A B18c5 with just I/H/E alone should get you into the mid 13's......but like Jan said I'd do the GSR boosted. My boy has a Greedy kit on a SOHC coupe civic and runs mid to low 14's all day @7psi.....good kit.

SHOC VTEC....his stock EX motor. He did a p28 ECU upgrade and hollyshit...that has given him a hugh hp gain...I'm think low 14's now but I'll keep you up dated if you want. We should be going to the track next weekend. I have hear of big gains with a OBD1 ECU upgrade....in a ITR that Jotech did they put a turbo kit on it and with just the ECU upgrade they gain 30whp

Go with the GSR engine It's perfect for Boosting. I recommend 9:1 JE forged pistons and Crower Rods

how bout you greddy turbo a B18C5 like me :D .....I am on stock internals with inline pro head gasket, block gaurd, 440cc injectors, Cartech FMU(adjustable without calibration kit), VAFC, and 255lph pump. if you are upgrading internals I would use GE sleeves, endyne rollerwave pistons, Eagle rods, total seal rings.

fuel is the key to boost. as you can see I am running a lot of it and the afc will handle the work as long as you use the blue wire mod. it will idle but will tend to "buck" when you let off the gas then smash it again.
