quietest muffler 2.5"-3"

Post by fredtoast »

I'm looking to upgrade my exhaust system, but I want to keep it as quiet as possible. I understand that quiet = backpressure, but here is what I'm considering. I have a 98 ITR with a jrsc. If I get a Kamikazee header (2.5) into 3" piping and remove the cat, then what is the quietest muffler I can run it into and still get significant power gains? How much louder would it be with the test pipe and the stock US ITR muffler?

I have the Tanabe Super Hyper Medallion. I love it. Quiet as hell, smooth warm sound with no pops. I have a JDM header with a 2.5 cat. It loooks great on the car too.

Read what you wrote, On a civic Tanabe might be loud but I don't know about you but, I own a Type R. On my 99 civic I had a tanabe racing medallion and it was loud as hell. We're talking about Type Rs here. In my opinion It's the best sounding for the money. DC, Apex, Greddy, they all sound like shit compared to mine. It's hard to get a GSR or Type R to sound smooth with an exhaust. Trust me. It's quiet. All you here is Vtec in my car

but my Dc cat back is the shit as far as "nice sound" goes Umm i wasnt looking for a quiet exhaust in the first place, but the resonator is big and it does make a nice almost quiet sound at low Rpm's , but then when i open my bitch up i can hear it complimenting the CAI so well, no cops got to be around anyway! so my opinion is if you got a Cold air intake, you already are loud in the high range, so might as well had an exhaust and who cares if its loud, you'll be deaf from the intake if not the exhaust=)if you have something thats not too loud for an intake, or stock, then forget this whole post:)

Hey Typer483, how does your system sound compared to stock, and can you FEEL any difference? Thanks

I love it

I have the DC 4-1 JDM stainless steel header, a Random high flow cat. With 2.5 flanges welded on, with the Tanabe exhaust. Smooth and powerful. Higher RPMs are sick as hell. I love this setup. Affordable and gets the job done

Well I had a Tanabe on my car which I happen to be selling. I'm not going to lie to you its loud as hell. I was running a Spoon header with no cat(had a test pipe) and the Tanabe Super Racing Medalion. Once you put the silencer in I couldn't even tell I had exhaust on the car. Let me know if your intrested. I'm selling it for $400 with the silencer. It was one the car for about 1 1/2 months and is mint. If your wondering why I'm selling it it's because I'm going to Turbo charge the car and got a good deal on a 3 inch.
