valve clearence

Post by 96TypeR »

when the valvetrain is upgraded...valves, springs, retainers... is the valve clearence still supposed to be in. .006-.007 and ex. .007-.008. or would you have tighter clearences?

OK if all you are changing is what you mentioned above. Then keep the clearances the same as stock! It's when you involve higher lift/longer duration cams, or higher/lower compression pistons is when you wanna change valve lash! This is all so your pistons and valves do NOT become friends too quickly.

correct me if Im wrong, but you are checking the clearance with the piston/cam at TDC. so no matter what cams you are running, you can always use the stock valve clearance. When I was running JUN3s with CTR pistons, I used stock clearance. Now Im running 98 ITR cams and 9:1 pistons, and still use stock clearance.

I know when I installed my S2S2 cams, it came with instructions to use a different valve lash adjustment due to the higher lift and longer duration.

Mine tick like hell now. Even worse after the S2S2 cams.

well I dunno, just going by what worked for me.

the ticking noise is part valvetrain, part injector firing.
