Thats what I was thinking. I didn't know where in the DC area you were, but anywhere can be problematic.

Yea, give the camera to a taller person and have them shoot over the fence!!

Best advice ever! But manual focus is your best option there unless you have a good sense of distance and can prefocus the camera on something that is the distance away that your object is going to be where you shoot it. Either way you need to figure out your focus and have it set before you start lining up for the shot. Also if you're panning and blurring the background it also helps to hide the fence like in the audi one above. You can tell its there, but its not what you focus on really. At least not to me.
