Recovering stolen items off ebay

Post by tufnoodle »

Hi all,

I wanted to see what suggestions people might have about my problem. Yesterday the center caps from my 2000 ITR were stolen in Orange County. Today I see a set of them pop up on ebay being sold by a seller from OC. This is highly circumstantial evidence, I know, but those red Acura center caps don't seem too common on ebay and the coincidence seems suspect to me. Any one have suggestions? I assume the police wouldn't waste time even taking a report on something like this since it'd be hard to prove anything.

Cheers,
Al

edit: here's a link to the ebay auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HONDA-AC ... enameZWDVW

and a google search came up w/ this blog w/ the same name:

That's a tough situation.
The only thing I can think of is if you can positively identify them to be yours, then to try to meet up with the guy since you're local and skin the theif. :D

I wish I could help you, bud.

as the blog reckons the little cunt is still only 16 i doubt its come off an ITR HE owns

i'd be tempted to buy them, say pickup and then beat him to within an inch of his life

even if they aren't your centre caps he deserves a beating for that appaulling spelling and grammar

as has been said though, unless you can prove they are yours theres not a lot you can do apart from the ridiculous suggestions been made :?

I unfortunately agree. Without some way of ID'ing them as mine (there is no way as far as I know, right?) there's no point in going to the cops. Also him being under 18, I don't even see what they would do to him, probation until he's 18 for stealing $160 worth of caps? I think it would be much more fun if I somehow won his auction and got the paypal invoice which hopefully would have his name and address. I wouldn't try to kick his ass; who knows if him or his wannabe thug friends are crazy enough to pack guns. But posting to some gay message boards or having flyers show up in his neighborhood warning of a sexual predator in their midst with his name and address...that would be interesting. Theoretically, of course. I in no way condone violence or vigilantism for the record, haha.

That sucks... if you think they're yours, you could always win the auction... ask for (or insist) a local pickup... then meet the guy... try to bluff him.

Tell him they're the ones that were stolen from your car and that you can prove that they are. When he says "prove it", tell him you'll prove it to the police when they arrive. Explain that someone (witness) saw a suspicious person doing something to your car. The witness then left a note with their phone number that said that they'd be happy to identify the thief/vandal if necessary.

Or you could just win the auction and pay for them and call it a day... but there wouldn't be much fun in that. :P

Good luck!

D

ps. you can easily get his address and phone number (from ebay) once you've won the auction.

pps. I have a vivid imagination. :D

Look at the sellers history......check out all of the center caps that he has already sold on EBay! Caps from Civics, Accords, and who knows what else. Time for a beatdown!

I say win the auction for sure. Try to set up a local pick up and then find out from there if they are yours by using some kind of trickery (a few good ones were mentionned above). Worst case scenario is that they arent yours, but at least you got some caps for your car and still keep an eye out for yours
