Hi, did acura make a keyless entry/alarm system for type-R? If so, is it any good? Does it have a "fuel kill" feature?

It def isnt enough to prevent/stop theft. Layered security is way better than just one security measure.

1. I thought ALL USDM ITR's had an immobilizer?
2. With LoJack all you pay for is the device and install, nothing after that.

Unfortunately, the immobilizer only deters the most amateur car thieves, basically kids looking for a joy ride.

LoJack isn't that great. Quite a few ITR's have been stolen/stripped while equipped. Often the LoJack operators and police can never locate the signal. As far as tracking systems, you're better off with a stealth GPS system. This way you can monitor your car's location via the internet 24/7.

Alarm systems are only as good as their install. An ebay cheapo with a stealth install will do better than the most expensive Viper or Compustar with a quick, shoddy install. Hiding the alarm brains, wires, and sirens is essential. Also have a hidden backup battery source. But yes, Viper is a well respected name. My only suggestion is to get all the options- bump, glass, tilt, hood, trunk, and door sensors.

The best theft prevention measure is a garage. ITRs parked on the street, especially in urban areas will eventually get hit. For this I'd recommend a full wheel boot, and not one of those worthless AlphaLocks. How many layers of quality security it has will determine if it gets stolen. Of course, quite a few ITRs have been stolen by tow trucks. Hard to prevent this, other than taking the wheels off everynight

It's sad that R owners have to be so security conscience. For crying out loud, clean R's can be had for between $11-17k. New Civics are more than that

EDIT: 97-98s did not have immobilizers. Wasn't sure about the 00s, but if Jimbo says they do

I know of one, only one that was saved with LoJack... DavidNYC's ITR.
But as for security, Joe has hit in on the head. Layer that bish up garage it!

So besides Viper are there any better systems to look at and any suggestions as for who to do the install. Is there some sort of commercial shop to do this at rather than the sketchy rent-a-garage places downtown? I do intend to get every option i can for a security system but am just unsure of which company has the best product.

I had the Compustar and thought it was good.
But the installer screwed up and it went down hill after a year.

If I have the money later this Summer I'll put in the viper 791 xv myself.
I would recommend that if you know how to.
Not that I need a security system.. It's protected by me with a shotgun.

There are plenty of shops that will install an alarm system. The trick is finding one that will take the time to do a quality stealth install. Of course, time = money so be prepared for a stiff installation bill. I'd try to find a high end shop that works on luxury/exotic cars, most of their employees wouldn't care less about an Acura, or know what is an ITR. Unfortunately, you have to be mindful of the type of employees a shop has. I remember one shop in PA that did a high end install on a GSR, and a week later the car was jacked and stripped to the bone. Makes perfect sense if the guys who installed the alarm knew how to disable it quickly, plus they knew the guy's address from the service records. Also, if they keep your caR overnight, make sure they keep it indoors. Rs have been broken into and items stolen while awaiting shop work. Even minor things like the front lip, shift knob, or arm rest w/badge have disappeared while the caR was getting work done.

Cliff notes: Do it yourself or with buddies, and the Helms service manual.

Compustar and Viper are the 2 heavyweights in alarm systems. I personally like the extra long range (1/2 mile I believe) of the newer Compustar 2-way pagers.

yeah it's been good, working fine for me since June 2000 + never garaged.

You just got to be smart where/how you park/leave it and a beater helps out also.

So you have the factory alarm, does it have the ignition kill? Beside unlock doors, does it have shock sensors for body and glass?

seriously??...I think all it does is make NOISE if the doors are pryed open or if it gets hit hard enough
