Help on turbo

Post by ausrim »

I just had this car with 105,000 miles on it, 2001 Acura Integra Type-R. I need everybody's opinion if it's worth putting turbo or rebuilt the engine first .

Personally, I'd put in some forged rods and pistons and give it a hone and new bearings prior to boosting it.

You could just turbo it the way it is, but it's up to you.

Thanks Jan...If I turbo it how much boost I can put on my stock. Is ITR's pistons and connecting rods are forged?

I wouldn't run any more than 10psi on a stock ITR motor...

no the stock parts aren't forged like you think.. the rods might be powder forged, not like the aftermarket forged rods.

I wouldn't so much concentrate on how much boost, because that can be quite subjective. The key is how much power.. my pistons failed at 295whp after about 40K miles of hard driving and over 100 1/4 mile runs. I'm not saying yours will fail too..but ring land failure is pretty common on stock honda pistons at around 300 whp. I'm actually quite happy that my stock motor lasted as long as it did.

Even with a great tune, there's always a chance that you get some bad gas..

thanks Soul.....did you modify any internal stuff on yours on 10 psi of boost, I think I should go with forged like Jan said just to be safe, I just don't know what brand I should consider.

Yea, I'd definitely take Jan's advice, he's been boosted a lot longer than I have. And yes, it's about how much power you make...if you get a big fatty turbo, then your better off with 6-7psi, and will probably make 300whp.

I'd def. go forged internals and rods, and a set of ARP headstuds.
