B16 head on JDM Type R shortblock?????

Post by NirVTEC »

I was just flipping through an old issue of Honda Tuning with the Hondata HC hatch and it mentioned that his 1st setup was a stock B16 head on a type r block. I assume it was done for compression reasons and possibly flow characteristics. Can anyone tell me what kind of compression this combo yield? I am currently prepping my EG with a JDM B18C for roadracing. Also, would using the stock B16 cams be ideal or would it be better to stick with the Type R cams if I went with the B16/B18 combo?
I am a total newbie to the Type R world! I was blessed with a blown single cam a couple months ago and now I am going for the GUSTO!

I hope to see some of you in Iowa in 2 months as I pan to be there with some ITR friends. :D

Might want to ask in the main forum here.. or honda-acura.net or honda-tech.com. Not much traffic in this forum except the occaisonal thread for meets.

there shouldn't be any compression changes because a b16 head is a type r head. At the factory some heads have been taken off the assembly line and ported a little bit and then put on a type r. So a type r head starts as a b16 head.

yes, he is correct. Same PR-3 casting. R heads are hand worked from Honda.
