Alrighty. Some point soon I want to do the Simple Green treatment under my hood. Now which parts should NOT be sprayed? Wires? Plastics? Rubbers?

How do you do it?

I've heard a procedure like this.... correct me if I'm wrong.

Cold motor.
1) Rinse engine bay with water
2) apply SG
3) Sit 1-5 mins
4) Rinse off and start motor

I've got a lot of nasty road grime/dirt/sand/salt in areas I just can't squeezed fingers to wipe so looking for a "washing" method.

Just do it the way I'm planning...

Take engine/trans out... With swap out, get in engine bay with SG, 409 or something and a tooth brush... Scrub... Scrub... Scrub...

And yes, I fully plan on doing this when it's time to pull the motor. :D

If it takes you more the 45 minutes, you are doing something wrong. OH! if you have a leaf blower use it to dry the entire engine bay. Less spots and no standing water to make rust or corrosion.

more info as the brain kicks in... :P
cold motor prevents the SG from drying up quickly.
use the SG straight, about 16-20oz should be plentiful
start under the hood and work your way down.
do not rinse the motor before, it only dilutes the SG and I bet you need full strength ;)

also spray it in the wheel wells and brush there too

Yeah, its just a matter of getting out there and doing it. Was thinking of doing an oil change today, but its been pouring rain all afternoon. Storms forecasted over the weekend. I don't need it cleaned that quickly :P

remember once it's clean, cleaning in the future will be easy. Hell... I've cleaned my engine in the rain. if you do a really good job less dirt will stick. so cleanings will not be very often.

Yeah, SG rules in the wheelwell. I sometimes use spray-on foaming engine cleaner, buy the cheapest thing in the store. It works when engine is warm. (Cuz i don't have a COLD engine after i drive to the carwash.)
If j00 got a crust of dirt/oil on engine, do eet cold with SG and let it sit awhile before blasting arf with carwash. The asphalt undercoating that came on me car is that nasty wet stuff that never dries. I'm a gonna get rid of it and found brake cleaner dissolves it like rat now!
In answer to your orig. question, a lotta silkscreen inks will dissolve with SG or Fantastic. You're O.K. if the decal or whatever has a mylar (shiny clear) layer applied over the top. Like the legend applied to the top of the fuse box cover.
Sabe?

As a sidenote: Some jerk said if you spray PAM inside wheelwells, dirt will rinse right arf.
I told teh foo to put two coats on calibers & rotors and he'd neva' have to worry about brake dust again. That ass.
