Spoon, Mugen, TODA, etc, etc, worth it? Y/N

Post by CT_the_AZN »

Okay, so, in the world of the aftermarket there is a fair share of shafting that goes on. Now popular companies such as Spoon, Mugen, Skunk2, and DC Sport. Good? Bad? I know we've ALL heard the saying "You get what you pay for", but on the otherhand, I'm sure more than one of us has heard the line "You're just paying for the name".

That said, what's a good company to go with for:
-Exhaust?
-N/A induction?
-Internals?
-Suspension?
-Brakes?

Now i'm not trying to go ALL out, full race or anything like that. More bang for the buck if you will. Any suggestions?

exactly ^

i daily drive and track mine and you'll only find oem and spoon parts on my car. i've used other brands and modded nearly everything but after a couple of years found myself reverting back to pretty much stock form with various spoon parts.

my most recent addition was spoon progressive springs and fixed dampers, i love it and it's exactly what i wanted out of a spring/damper combo.

you got to know what your useing the car for first. drag, autocross. etc. than you can
start looking at parts that better fit that driving style.

i just picked up my r in october. so i was in the market for a intake system. i have always used AEM but was wondering if something that cost more be better. i was thinking ARC, system but after reading diffrent post from people, plus the cost of it, i stayed with AEM and i'm happy with it. i'm sure someone is going to say AEM sucks or you should have went with ARC but it's your dollar. just my 2 cents

I put down 192 WHP on a dyno using only the following parts:

Mugen Intake
Mugen Head Gasket (raises compression, barely)
SMSP Header
SMSP Race Exhaust
Hondata IM Gasket (keeps intake temps down a bit)
Tuned by LHT Performance on Hondata S300

Mind you the engine only had around 10k on it, so it was pretty fresh.

But yes, you get what you pay for. Be it 1-4 WHP more than the competition.
