Hello,
Been lurking for a while, but couldn't find an answer to what I want to do to my car. Just wondering would installing a final drive boost any noticeable gain on a Type-R? Will it interfere or help with let say a turbo or supercharger? Also I'm planning to replace my clutches anyone have a recommendation so far I'm look at the Exedy Stage 1 organic clutch or the ACT FX100.
Thank you for your time.

Re: Some Questions on Final Drive
For a short time I had a ATS 4.9 FD in my mostly stock R, Geeze that was a nice change from the norm...
If you have the budget for the FD and installation, go for it. But most of the guys with 200 and above WHP prefer the 4.4/Stock FD. Longer gears keep 1,2 and 3rd usefull, On nearly stock power I was able to roast the tires in 1st and half way thru 2nd without even trying But one thing I noticed looong highway drives I burnt a little more oil and gas while dealing with more sound from the already loud exhaust. Not horrible but noticeable.

OH the clutch question...
unless you are making serious power above stock, stay with the stock clutch.

I totally agree with this statement, stock clutch is more than enough for stock setup. I as well use to think that I need a 4.9 FD, some aftermarket clutch or a short shifter but later on with experience I learned how to take car to its limit and trust me ... you will apperciate stock setup cuz its balanced so perfectly.Bbasso wrote:OH the clutch question...

Re: Some Questions on Final Drive
Thanks guys for the input, guess I'm going for stock now and save the money for other maintenance .
Re: Some Questions on Final Drive
In boosted apps, I would say stick with the stock FD. 1-3rd would be useless... LOL
But IMO, anything still NA could use a swift kick in the pants (I'm sure Rob knows what I'm talking about) and go with a different FD.
FWIW, on my track car I have the ATS 4.9 FD. I could never look back in that car.
In my DD, I'm making (haven't been on the dyno yet) over 200 WHP. I fully plan to either put a 4.7 or 4.9 in that car.
The difference a FD makes is incredible. Hands down the best mod IMO I've ever done and I've had plenty.
Just some food for thought.
