well I wiped it and reloaded all 5700 songs... the issue was still there.
I figured out that the 'compilation' tab was clicked (strange that one prince cd (of a 2 cd set) was clicked as a compilation and the other was not) and that put the album at the end of the line (cover flow) when it was loaded on the ip00 (but showed up in the correct order in itunes).
soundtracks (and a few other cds) that have different artists behave that way.
It is all figured out now.
Ripping into the "H's"... ~6200 songs and climbing.

ip00 = ~7500 songs. (~69GB)
Currently about thru my "M's" and almost out of harddrive space on my home PC
~120-130 CD's left to scan... might need to buy a 160GB ip00 once I am done.
