Help......Question about Valve adjustments!!!!!!

Post by 01ITR#158 »

I just took my ITR in for its 45000 mile maintinance check and i wanted my valves adjusted ect. Aj had previously told me that the specs should be 7 on the intake and 8 on the exhaust....I forgot to mention this to the tech at the dealership when i dropped it off. When i came to pick it up i asked what he set them at and he mentioned that they were real tight and he set them to 15 and 17. So, im driving home and my car feels real strange, ive had it for a year and its never felt like this previously. Could this have something to do with the valve adjustment they made. Is what they set it at correct or should i take it back and question what he did? I have 5000 miles left on my warranty so i want to make sure nothing is messed up. Any help would be greatly appreciated ASAP.

Thanx everyone!!!!

OH YEAH...TAKE IT BACK QUICK!!!!!

Those settings are closer to that of a Civic Si, not of an ITR, they're WAY WAY off.

I dont care what this know nothing tech said, Honda recomends that the settings be 7 on the intake and 8 on the exhaust...call the service manager, explain what happened, tell him that you would like a different tech to work on it, and do it correctly. I'm not sure what sort of whacked out mechanics they have working, but you need that to be redone correctly...

Good luck, let us know how it turns out

I'm not sure if you were trying to be humorous, but Si valve lash is the same as the ITR (.007 and .008). You know someone will set their valves to 15 and 17 after reading your response. :)

Guys...I think what the tech did was 0.15mm for the IN. and 0.17MM for the ex.....which it was set a bit tight....the factory setting is 0.17mm for IN. and 0.19mm for ex.

That should not be too bad ,just a lot quiter valves, but i think he should tell the tech the correct setting and get them readjusted.
