Mugen Intake. Have many questions.
1. What kind of gains are made.
2. How does it sound
3. I need the measurements of the air box. IE. Height, width (top and bottom) and Depth on the top (Nose to rear)
All help will be greatly appreciated. I will post pictures if all goes well.

Ps. i am not trying to build one. Good craftsmanship like that is hard to replicate.

1.) Gains is a bad question to ask. Why? There are a long list of variables. The skinny list would be the engine package(or lack of), mileage on engine, other bolt on items like Header, Cat, Exhaust, IM, TB, the TUNER, the Dyno, the temperature and humidity that day, location, the list goes on.
2.) Sound? Is this is huge deciding factor on whether or not you will purchase this unit? I can look for a sound clip.

There some Dyno charts floating around somewhere. Maybe Ausmith can rehost those for us. Simply put though, the Mugen was #1 on the dyno for our the C5 abobe all other off the shelf intakes.Markusirealius01 wrote:1. What kind of gains are made.

Here are 2 pics that you can get a good idea. The bottom of it goes into your fender like the stock intake does.

Just wondering if the MUGEN intake sounds louder than the COMPTECH intake with icebox?

Thanks a lot for all the help you guys. The reason i need all of this is because it is not going on the R I bought a new project and the parts market for it is kinda slim. Here it is. She's a 96 Vtec. I already have all the suspension done on her as well as wheels and tires. The Hytech header is being made and i need a better intake than the old 1990's AEM that is on there. I am hoping to be able to fit the Mugen one on there and then use the flow bench to make the pipe. I was kinda afraid that BBasso was going to delete this post when he found out it was going on a prelude but It is an ITR specific part, and that is what i am here to talk about. Thanks for all your help guys.

Just because the Mugen intake works well on a B18C5 does not mean it'll work well on a H22. That's A LOT of $$ to spend on an intake just to hope it'll work on a different application.
I'd ask what H22 intake works best on a Prelude forum. Not if an ITR intake will fit into the bay of a Prelude.

There is a considerable size difference in displacement. I would hate for you to spend all that money on the intake only to find out on the dyno that you need a larger for more air.

It's my money. i don't think you have to worry about it too much. I believe that i have the experience necessary to make an informed decision about my car. But thank you very much for your concerns.

Thanks for your input man. I am researching heavily on this matter. If you have any info please share. I am also worried about the displacement factor. I Had a 3" AEM CAI on the R for a while, the prelude also has a 3" AEM CAI they get almost the exact same gains on the dyno. I will also have a 4" intake pipe that bubbles down to 3 near the TB Which will be made with the flowbench.

Not only is the displacement completely different, but so is the RPM range the motors work within. Again, spending big cash on such an unknown--especially with a part designed for a completely different motor--is somewhat silly (especially when you have to modify it to work). Remember, Mugen R&D's their parts for a specific application.
Borrow one first, dyno it against an H22 intake that's known to be the best and go from there.

Thanks Rob. I think very highly of this forum and that is why i did not ask any one on a prelude forum they don't compare. This is the Place To Be (so to speak.) I just got in touch with my friend in Canada and he got very impressive numbers with it on the prelude. but my problem is the fitment on the 96. I don't know if you know. But i don't exactly have the most room in the bay of the prelude. He has it on his 01 Type S. that is why I asked for the measurements of it. Thanks I really appreciate every one on this site.

I'd venture to say that a Type-S motor is closer to the B18C5 than a H22 is. The powerbands of the K20 and B18 are much closer.
Plus, it's a known fact that a Type-S really responds to an intake. However, I find it hard to believe that the DC2 Mugen setup outgains a good 3" SRI or CAI on the Type-S. I had a real-deal DC5 Mugen intake on my Type-S and a DC5 Comptech airbox (which is very similar to a DC2 Mugen) and neither made as much power as a CAI for the DC5 application.
It's your money, but I could think of wiser things to do with it and better tests to run.

I am not talking about any K motor. The type S is a JDM RHD H22 prelude with 11:1 CR and a reline of 8,400 That is the set up he has. It is a prelude, Not a DC5.

I think the guy really only want to know if it is physically possible to fit the mugen airbox into his car then anything else.
