simple rebuild

Post by nessb18c5 »

My motor just hit 144k miles(mainly highway) and I'm thinking of rebuilding it. I'm looking to bump the compression and hope to keep the factory

bore(81mm). Im going to keep it pretty simple and not go custom.

cp 11.5:1 piston
cometic headgasket(thinner one)
skunk2 pro2 cams with supporting valves/springs
factory oem crank
eventaully pnp my head
-rods unsure yet-

Well I'm still playing with this on paper and was looking to bounce ideas off of anyone.

- daily driver/weekend warrior allmotor to be tune on 91 octane - if not then e85

Since you want to keep it simple AND be your daily driver, I do not recommend running those cams. In my eyes a simple rebuild would be:

-Need valve seals
-New valve cover gasket kit
-New Headgasket, OEM or Mugen
-JDM P30 pistons, rings. Standard or Oversize bored, depending on the condition of your cylinder walls.
-New bearings for the crank
-Having the entire rotating assembly balanced to match (Crank, Rods, Pistons)
-Reuse factory rods
-ARP Headbolts
-ARP Rodbolts
-Timing belt, water bumper, tensioner, spring, etc
-Replacing anything that was needed.

There is probably more, but this was off the to top of my head.

researching -Need valve seals
have -New valve cover gasket kit
nothing yet -New Headgasket, OEM or Mugen
forge still thinking -JDM P30 pistons, rings. Standard or Oversize bored, depending on the condition of your cylinder walls.
thinking -New bearings for the crank
planning -Having the entire rotating assembly balanced to match (Crank, Rods, Pistons)
hope to -Reuse factory rods
order -ARP Headbolts
order -ARP Rodbolts
order -Timing belt, water bumper, tensioner, spring, etc

That was a little too simple for me, I did look into running p30 at first but decided to go a little more. Im still researching on the build but to reuse the factory rod would be nice and I need forge piston though incase I decide to start to spraying again.

My motor still runs perfect no oil leeks or idle issue. I was going to redo all the gasket, timing belt, clutch etc...and decided since the motor was going to be apart might as well add a few things in. I hope to come to a conclusion and get this build on the way.

If you are going rebuild. Replacing the bearings is one of the first things I would do. That is super important cause if you spin one all of your hard work on the rebuild is out the window.
