Clutch Replacement

Post by 2001ITRYELLOW »

its time to replace my clutch and im looking for an aftermarket with a new flywheel. i dont have much mods but i/h/e.
not looking to do much to the car as in building up motor, i did consider a stock clutch but rather go with aftermarket.

seen some setups like
Exedy stage 1 with 9.5 flywheel
ACT street kit with xact 12.5 flywheel
both organic clutch
reviews..?

I like the stock clutch with the lightest FW you can afford/find.

I like the Exedy 3 puck. I am running the stock flywheel... I am wondering if I should switch it up.

IMO I say stick with the stock clutch since you don't plan on doing much. My motor is beefed up some internaly and have some bolt ons and my works great and my foot don't get tired pushing it in. Now the flywheel I say get rid of the heavy ass chunk of steel and throw a light one in while your down there.

In mho, I would not spend the cash to save 3lbs on a flywheel... Try to find a Fidanza flywheel or Comptech. they are right at the 7.lb AND very worth spending money on.

i have a buddy of mines who had a 7lb flywheel and just wasn't impressed, it moves rpms faster but not right mod for only bolt-ons IMO. might need more power for something that light.................... :?:

what do you guys think..?

I've had the Comptech 6.75lb FW for 80,000 miles and each time someone drives it they are like "Whoa!"
Any time you can lighten the mass that the motor has to spin = more power to the ground and better MPG.

I only have the simple bolt-ons and I'd say it's the most impressive part on the car.
I also has the same FW with the 4.9FD and OMG! did it make a difference, so much so that 1st & second gears were nearly useless under heavy throttle (spin, spin, spin...)

But I'm back to a stock trans... happy about it too, better MPG ;)

What are the applications/goal for this car? If you are just interested in just spirited driving then an OEM style Stage 1 clutch will be sufficient. Exedy is one of the companies would produce OE clutches for Honda, but Exedy's production methods for Honda and aftermarket do differ. I have a mild motor setup with zero drag etc in my future, only spirited driving and HPDE's. I decided to go with a part organic/kevlar Action 1KS clutch kit from Whoopee Doo Racing (and Expo sponsor.) Another Expo sponsor sells Exedy so with either option you will see some savings.
