duh
Wow, surprised an S would be cheaper than a GS-R. Are S2000's really less prone to theft than Integras? Is their factory antitheft shitte really that much better?
have you seen the top ten cars stolen report for each of the last ten years? The integra owns the list practically. 4 of ten are usually integras. (the lists i have seen are by year/make/model, so you can be on the list more than once with a particular make.
The GSR and ITR are in the same insurance category as a BMW 540i 6M sportm, M5, M3, etc. or at least was a year or two ago. It costs less to insure an NSX than an integra coupe.
anything and everything on an integra can be swapped to a civic, and there are mass quantities, more than almost any other car, of these two cars.
What's the reason to steal an S? Thieves cannot chop it up and sell it all like they can a teg.
also. factory anti-theft stuff is not a deterrent against a theif. at all. nor is most of what we all put on our cars. good theives will get your car if they want it, flat bed or otherwise. people with lo jack and other devices have been duped badly. The safest theft deterrent is to either not own the car or garage it and keep it out of sight. Or live in a low theft risk area.
spending a lot of time on honda-tech, i think we've all seen how audacious theives can be and the quantity stolen. amazing.
chris - glad to live in chicago, which is relatively low theft... i parked my R everywhere - chinatown, inner city, major streets, alleys, lived IN the city for 2 yrs and parked in the same recognizable spot every day, malls, suburbs with punk kids and visibility to all, etc. could never do that in socal or other places.

Yeah, I've seen those lists. I just thought Integra owned it because of the sheer number of Integras out there vs S2000s, and the amount of swapable parts. I'd still think there would be enough thieves out there interested in S2000s so that the insurance would be at least on par with Integras, not cheaper
Which is good, an S2000 is my 2-seater of choice
Yellow ones are ooo so hot

Yeah, that's one good thing about Buffalo. I'd be surprised if 20 people in the whole area knew what is an ITR.
I asked the techs at the one and only Acura dealer in western NY and they only knew of 1 black one around here. I probably could DD an ITR here without much worry of theft, but I wouldn't chance it. Plus I'd be more worried about haters and parking lot dings and scrapes. Poor Lucy has more than her fair share

There just isn't anything to do with an s2k as far as theft. There's no big huge market for F series motor swaps, and nothing fits other hondas (good!).
what was the difference in insurance cost dave? just a percent difference will do if you dont want to disclose the actual amounts.

thats prety cool about flying under the radar out there. as for dings and such... it doesn't matter where you are or what you drive, they are inevitable. pisses me off.
i had a car park so close to me the other day at the tennis club that i could not get in my car. literally inches. some HUGE denali or something stupid, parked totally crooked. good thing i was not in a hurry. i suppose i could have got in the passenger side. instead i waited and had a few nice things to say. typical north shore mom with phone and bratty kids and no consideration for anyone or anything. what cracks me up is that the response is usually that its MY fault or that i am inconveniencing them by even talking to them. if there was any room to get in i might have gave her a nice door ding or three. i normally park with many spaces open around me when possible... some places you just cant do it.
im suprised with chicago being as big as it is. most big cities are theft havens. not really so much here.

Yeah, the first couple door dings and little bumper scratches pissed me off, but I got used to it. What really fried my nuts, when I was parked at the mall, was the skateboarder who hit off my nose and left arching scratches sweeping around the Acura emblem. And the hit and run by a box truck when my car was parked. Dumbass didn't swing wide enough and the big duelly wheels rubbed around my drivers fender and bumper. Luckily nothing broke, just looks like she has a black eye.

Damn dude! that blows. That stuff gets me SO MAD. I feel joo pain with this stuff. I wish i could somehow get my redemption by catching a punk kind in the act on someone's car (or mine) or something like that.
Let's see....
6 months into owning the R: 'touchless' carwash goes wacko and front arm scrapes across bumper. Digs a DEEP rut all the way across the front. Long saga with the station over this and eventually get it fixed out of my own wallet.
Someone puts two three inch dents in my driver's quarter panel AT WORK. I inquired with security, NO luck. No cars around me to indicate who may have done it. (luckily this was fixed when I had my accident, unforunately i had an accident
)
Two giganto door dings.. you guessed it.. at work. Paint chips right off from the 2nd one.
The fucking car is YELLOW people.. how can you not see it?
I also had people dumb like 10 packets of ketchup on the hood and dump their mcd's or bk trash on it. WTF? That was not fun to clean off, it was very cold out so it didn't really want to come off.

Yeah, I have a short temper when it comes to those sort of things, not proud of it but its there. So legally, it was probably best I didn't catch either of those acts on my car.
Damn, sucks about what you've had happen. I would have had a lawyer on that car wash, small claims court at the very least. Go figure, no one wants to take responsibility for their actions anymore.
And parking scratches and dents will only get worse. The average driving skills in this country is dwindling at an alarming rate. Road tests are a joke. I also think people should be retested on a regular basis, every 3 years maybe. People have totally forgotten the rules of the road. And as far as trying to avoid hits, no more. When I lived in Baltimore for a year (where ALL my damages occured), we had on street parallel parking. I would watch people parking their cars, and they would actually bump bumpers on PURPOSE before correcting. Like other cars were an indicator of when you need to correct.
ahhh ranting relieves tension

ranting is good!
i totally agree about what you said in regards to driving ability. and consideration.
i do a ton of biking, and im SCARED to be on the road with cars most of the time. There are very few roads I feel safe on. One in particular b/c its very well travelled by bikers. People have no concept of sharing the road, giving room, signalling properly, WAITING, being patient, etc. It's amazing. I've actually seen cars swerve intentionally at bikers as some kinda of supremacy statement. :-/ Running is no better, especially when someone is straddling the cross walk while waiting to turn or edging forward thinking they can trigger the light or something. they look at you like you are some kinda alien, wtf, never seen a runner or biker? wtf?
As far as driving, I stay away from everyone and keep my distance.
as far as ranting, i love it.
im not bitter or angry or any of that, but its nice to now peeps have the same frustrations and complaints and to get them out in the open.

Indeed. Lucy is my first car, so all these incidents were a tremendous live and learn experience. I was furious at the time, but I look back now and see what I've learned from it, such as living somewhere with a driveway and/or garage
As far as my driving, I hate running in packs, mostly because people don't know how to maintain a speed. Folks, if you're going uphill, ya gotta give it a lil more gas.
I feel almost clausterphobic (spelling?), I love being at the front of the line at a red light and pulling away from the pack, not speeding, just getting up to the limit (or the 5-10mph acceptable speeding) quickly to give myself some space.

It's crazy to see the integra having the same insurance as mentioned above. How old does a car have to be before you can claim collectible insurance on it? I understand it's a totally different insurance policy, some only permit a certain about of miles each year etc. but, I rather pay for cheaper insurance since the car only see's track days 3-4 times a year at most and occasional driving every 3-4 months.

Yeah, I was hit by a car while riding my bike a few years back. Nothing serious, ended up ass first on her hood, but she crunched my front wheel. I had the right of way, she was at a stop sign, she looked in my direction (although she was probably distracted while yapping with the woman riding shotgun) and she pulled out while I was crossing the street. Luckily it was an under 5mph hit. I was young and stupid, when she handed me $20 I took it. Fuggin wheel cost $45 to replace! *looks around* Where's that hammer on me smiley?

People drive like ass hats anymore! Most of my friends call me "Old man" by how I drive my R. Like seriously... it's bright ass Yellow, loud, and yeah in Cali! The Cops <3 following me, just waiting for me to do some dumb shit. On th ehighway I do like 5-10 over, but normal streets I do 4 over if that.

V1 and laid back Buffalo Police FTW!
I just did a State Farm online quote an 2002 S2000 vs my 2001 Integra GS vs a 2001 ITR. All else equal (To/From work, miles per year, coverages/deductables) the S2000 was most expensive, followed by the ITR, then mine.
Six-month payments:
S2000 - $757.92
ITR - $681.62
GS - $555.30
I did these all at once, like I owned all three and got the multi-vehicle discount. But you can still see the relative difference.
Gee, and all this talk of cheaper S2000 insurance and with prices of S2000s becoming affordable, to me. Y'all had to get me all excited, didn't you

thats messed up. strange. all the gsr/type r/s2k people i know had this discussion last year and we were all amazed at the ins rates we had and were pissed at the s2k guys.
mine was $110/month for an R, $95/month for Civic Si (EM1) and $75/mo for S2k. Didn't really matter what deductables/etc... same ratio.. ish.
This was a while ago, I can try it now to see whats changed i guess...
