I'm tellin 'ya, If paint surface is kinda dull, I'd take it to a pro and have it power buffed. You can do this about three times and then the clearcoat gets too thin. Claybar removes stuff stuck to the paint. If after washing, you can run your hand lightly over the surface and feel stuff, it needs clay bar treatment.

Paint surface isnt dull, it just has some oxidation and swirls in it.

Yeah thats what I meant by "kinda dull". They'll use a lighter touch if it's lightly oxidised. But I'd pay a pro, the results are generally better.

In that pic, I used nothing heavy all lite stuff. Just used the buffer.

A friend has used a light cleaner and it didnt work...

You guys are making me laugh!! Obviously I will try this stuff on a set of black side skirts i have lying around first. If it doesnt work it doesnt work. I might just skip that whole step and do what Erik said!! Hell, I might not do chit and wait for Rob to do it!!
