Do you agree that the intakes are pretty damm close in power output?
I have not driven a car with the mugen intake so I can't comment on the throttle response but when on track (for ME) it's on the gas or off the gas. so throttle response is mute in driving stlye.
as for milage... mine dyno run was done at 62,ooo w/o any EM either. Did you have any sort of EM for the mugen duno pull?

I have a VAFC and double your mileage. I want to say if I had a better em, I could reach fairly close to Nolan's numbers.Bbasso wrote:Do you agree that the intakes are pretty damm close in power output? In your case yes. Obviously different cars will respond differently to mods. I'd like to think if my motor was younger it would see a bit more power. I think your engine was built on a tuesday and your trans on a friday/monday...

One of the great things about the Mugen is throttle response, so saying its not a valid point is wrong... although u say you dont care about it...as for milage... mine dyno run was done at 62,ooo w/o any EM either. Another thing to consider.... I've submerged my car up to about mid lip in water and I didnt suck up any. I also have driven thru monsooons and the mugen does not suck up water. I know you dont drive your car as much as I do, but, driving in the rain is a way of life for me. If I had to take the mugen apart everytime it rained.....I wouldnt have it.

easy Jim, I'm not taking pop shots at your R
And I would have to agree with the motor being built on a good day and the trans... Lets just say I got screwed
I have driven each one of those miles with the AEM CAI and not once ever took it off because of rain or floods. And I'll tell ya there has been some heavy ass down pours that I traveled thru during the years. Just ask Edwin/R1366, he was following me and thought I drove too fast for the conditions
I honestly can't see how a responsible person would drive thru a lake deep enough to get enough water into the intake... I have heard stories over the years, but deep water with or without the intake I would go around. Do I have more common sense then some others? I dunno...

I have heard a bunch of hydro-lock stories, 95% of them have to do with the AEM CAI. I had a CAI on my hatch back a while back, every time it rained I attached the filter straight to the TB... I dont remember ever seeing a Mugen vs AEM CAI dyno plot. Hopefully Mike will pull thru and get us that in the next few months...

I'm kinda excited about this. Does King tune? Thats who will be doing the tune? Your motor is stock, correct? Just i/h/e...Mugen Mike wrote:Well like I said, I will do dyno runs with both intakes, having the car tuned (Hondata) with each intake, rather than just back-to-back runs with no tuning.Bbasso wrote:Mike you can make history if you pull this 'vs' chart off properly!!!

And then what well do is go around and just say which is better to cause trouble on assorted forums and then later post the results up

something about it seemed off.
<cantz rememberz
One of the runs was using a full exhaust to go with it, so it ruined the whole thing.

Yes, King has their own in-house DynoJet dyno.walker111 wrote:I'm kinda excited about this. Does King tune? Thats who will be doing the tune? Your motor is stock, correct? Just i/h/e...
My motor isn't quite stock:
Mugen headgasket
JDM ITR pistons
Anti-friction coated pistons & cams
King port & polish
Balance & blueprint
King throttle body
CTR intake cam
Mugen valve springs
Intake, header, exhaust
Not a monster build, but not quite stock either.

having driven a friends AEM CAI equipped ITR back to back with mine, the throttle response on part throttle etc. wasn't as sharp
it did make an incredibly loud noise, but i like the stealth of the Mugen
for what i wanted the Mugen was better. plus as it pisses down with rain 3/4 of the year i didn't want even a hint of water issues

Like Rob said, it'll work... Now hurry up and buy the intazke!!!Mugen Mike wrote:Yes, King has their own in-house DynoJet dyno.walker111 wrote:I'm kinda excited about this. Does King tune? Thats who will be doing the tune? Your motor is stock, correct? Just i/h/e...

As in time to put it in? If i were at the comforts of my own home during the install it would have gone a lot smoother. Unfortunately I was at a car show and every dick and tom wanted to ask questions...EG6-DC2 wrote:You think that time might be a little problem, especially if you still have A/C.walker111 wrote:x2 as old as these things are it should have been done. It definatly isn't as easy as an AEM intsall!walker111 wrote:As in time to put it in? If i were at the comforts of my own home during the install it would have gone a lot smoother.
